anyone hear anything about him? has he visted any teams or anything. to be honest i think he is a solid player and if we can get him a lot cheaper why not bring him back in for some depth. when u look at it didnt we lose like 3 or 4 LBs and only brought in one to replace them lol

Yeah but Barton will comand starting LB money. No point in paying your backups like starters especially with a salary cap.

why is he a dick, just wondering what makes you say that, he was a very good on field intensity leader, and a good presence in the locker room.

    I would love him back

Because he is cocky enough to think that he deserves the same kind of money that Bart Scott got.

    I said that.

The guy is going to want a starter's salary. No way around it.

In my opinion he's easily one of the best LBs left in free agency. People on here hate on him because he couldn't single handedly pick up all the slack from Bowens and Thomas and our crappy secondary.

I would love to have him back. I think he's a valuable and very underrated player. He plays with intensity, he has great awareness, he's a sure tackler, he's pretty quick and can cover reasonably well. If he can play outside in the 3-4 half as well as he plays inside he would be a great presence while we figure out what's going on with Gholston. I mean he played outside in the 4-3.. how much worse could he than Cactus? If not he'd be great for depth on the inside, though a bit expensive.

    What?

I don't see anyone in this thread hating on Barton.

I just pointed out the fact that with all the money we already have tied up at LB (Scott, Pace, Gholston) we will not be able to justify paying Barton the salary he is going to want.

i agree, hes arguably been our most solid player for years. again releasing him because hes 31 and on the downside i understand, but i am surprised the attitude of most on thisboard is is "good riddance". lol he wasn't a bad jet at all

    Calling him a dick counts.

But I agree that if he still wants a starter salary I wouldn't have a problem seeing him go.
His first few years here were good and his last few have been average, but it doesn't take more than 1 bone-headed play per year to make everyone shit on him.

Barton had to be upgraded based on his lack of cover skills which killed us this year. He was a leader for us, and serviceable against the run, but could be upgraded and that's what we did. I highly doubt he is expecting a contract similar to what Bart Scott got regarding whoever assumed that... I think he'll be able to go somewhere and contribute as a stop-gap.

I don't know why you think he is going to command 8 mil a year... you're not thinking this through.

Stater money is around 6 mil for a player of his caliber, not Bart Scott money.

And the Jets sure as hell didn't want him back.

Barton was a very good player for us. It's not fair for anyone here to knock him. I'd take him back in a second, but understand why if it doesn't happen.

You call him a dick and say you aren't bashing the guy? Say that to his face (or any number of other people you don't know) and YOU are the one will get bashed.

You aren't the only one on this board that says stupid shit like this about players. Fine if you want to critisize his play, or if a player gives less than 100%, but Barton hardly deserves to be called a dick. The Jets defense would have been one of the worst in the league last year if Barton wasn't out there.

No wonder players never visit fan sites. They have to read mindless nonsense like this.
