I am concerned that Coach Ryan, because of what happened last season, is downplaying the role of QB. What happened with Flacco is a fluke-o.

The Jets cannot rest with what they have at QB. Ratliff had a fantastic pre-season, but who knows where that will lead? Kellen, IMO, is the worst QB in the league and cannot handle pressure. And Ainge was drafted as a project.

Because the Chiefs now have Cassel, Sanchez is very much in play. Jets don't let him go to another team. Trade up, if you have to, and take him!!!

We could have the greatest defense in the world, but without a decent QB, the team will go nowhere. Get Sanchez!!!

We did it for Revis and we did it for Harris, and they are both success stories. I think it is more than worth it to trade up to like the 8th pick and snatch him up.

You know what, I for one am terrified of drafting a QB in the 1st rd thinking he's going to turn out to be a bust. (darksider mentality...can't shake it)

I remember praying last year at Dave and Busters during the JEts draft day party that the Falcon's take Matt Ryan so we can have Gholston...clearly a big mistake on my part and many other fans I'm sure.

BUT, is Sanchez going to be able to play like a Flacco and/or play better than Clemens or Ratliff? Not sure I'm sold here...I think you need to let those 2 battle it out and see what you have before we take another unproven commodity.

No thanks. I'd rather roll with Clemens/Ratliff/Ainge.

If the QB plan fails miserably in 2009. Theres always next year with Tebow and McCoy coming out. I see Ratliff as silencing the doubters. Hes a big strong kid with a great arm. Give him a chance. Why not?

Why? He has 1 year of college starting experience and that was behind arguably the best OL in football on the best college team in the country. What makes you think he is a star? In fact when was the last time USC put any stars at QB into the NFL? They all get drafted high and then disappear.

So by what your saying above about Ratliff, can't we also say "Sanchez had ONE good season in college so what's the guarantee he'll be successful in the NFL"?

First of all, I don't have any problem with them battling it out. I don't think Sanchez will automatically be able to jump in and play. I'm more worried about the Jets future with no QB. Sanchez is a QB.

With regard to Ghoston, it was a gamble to take him, and frankly I was all for it. He had like a seven sack day, and the rest of the time he played like a human. But his size and athletic ability made him look like a keeper. It still does, and now he sounds like he has his head in the game for the first time since maybe high school.

If Sanchez doesn't work out, we'll do something else. That's the case with anyone you draft. But I think he's going to work out big time. He's just getting better.

Well, he better jump in and play when his only competition is three people who have never played at all. He will cost at least a 50 million dollar contract with 30 million guaranteed. You're willing to spend that on Somebody that can't beat out Clemens or Ratliff? That's why the whole idea of moving up to draft him is a joke.

note to you, Kellen Clemens and Ratliff have more experience than a rookie QB.

I'm a Ratliff fan, so you're asking the wrong person that. Ratty came to the Jets and made a lot of mistakes. Last pre-season, he looked like he corrected them. But it was pre-season, so again, who knows?

Here's what the Sporting News had to say about Sanchez's combine appearance: "He showed a quick, compact delivery and release. He drove into his passes and the ball exploded out of his hand. His throws had good velocity and a tight, clean spiral. With Georgia's Matthew Stafford choosing not to throw, Sanchez proved their competition to be the draft's top quarterback is far from over. Teams were impressed that Sanchez decided to throw and did not look nervous or anxious."

I think the whole draft is a crap shoot, and Gholston was certainly a gamble, but I don't think Sanchez is any gamble whatsoever. He looks very good, and no team would be faulted for wanting to draft him. I hope the Jets do.

Sanchez may turn out to be a good QB and I'm all for drafting him at #17. I'm not willing to trade up to #8 and give up draft picks. Ratliff looks promising and has all the tools to become a good QB. Let's sit at 17 and see who falls to us. Honestly, the players available...from 5-20 are all very close in ability and value. The only must have player in the Top of the draft....IMO, is Curry. More teams will be willing to trade down than trade up....and there won't be many teams willing to trade up. So don't expect alot of trades in early to mid Rd 1.

Exactly! And they both know our system and players. And as Don pointed out with what its going to cost to sign him, no way. I dont see any of this years draft choices performing better this year that what we have on the roster.

After Stafford and Sanchez, the QBs are not close in value. When we drafted Clemens, a case could have been made (and was) that he was close in value to those chosen before him. I remember Ron Jawarski saying that he thought Clemens was the best QB in the draft and that he could have been chosen first if not for his college injury. But there is no "Clemens" in this draft. It's Stafford or Sanchez, and there's a huge drop off after them.

I don't want the Jets to draft a mediocre QB. I want a QB in the draft that will always be a Jet. I don't want some used up free agent. I want a guy who will be with us for a long time. And I want that guy to be Sanchez :)
