Mid-round 3-4 OLB we should look at: Cody Brown

I like Antwan Barnes who is stuck behind Suggs on the Ravens - if we could trade for him that would be great. He is 6'1, 240 lbs and runs a 4.4. He has a knack for getting after the QB.

I'm not sure OLB in the 3-4 is that easy, and I'm not sure that wasn't his only job. If that were the case, anybody would be able to play OLB. You make it seem like the easiest job in the world.

I'd say that a starting DE or a #1 WR is a much more pressing need than another OLB

OK. Do me a favor and name a college 3-4 defensive end who specializes in rushing the passer. Actually, you can just name a college 3-4 defensive end.

Bonus question: name a 3-4 defensive end in the NFL who specializes in rushing the passer.

Love cody brown...the only thing I'm worried about is that he played for UConn which plays against some pretty crappy competition...kid is a warrior though. I don't know much about Barnes, but what kind of pick do you think the ravens would want for him? Out of curiosity cuz i dont know much about him

I was being facetious earlier for the record. 3-4 DEs do not rush the passer.

I didn't say theres guys that specialize in rushing the qb that are defensive ends, I said there are guys that Specialize in stopping the run, but can never get to the QB. The knock on players LIKE igor ovshansky is that he can occupy blockers, but can't get to the QB.

Brian Orakpo was a college defensive end for texas, that will stay as a defensive end in a 3-4 scheme in the nfl. He wracked up a ton of sacks, but was also very good at stopping the run. 10.5 sacks in college, and 16 tackles for loss. ..

Orakpo is 260 lbs. and will transition to OLB in a 3-4.

Listen im not arguing with you as far as personal, but I would much rather have an upgrade at the end position who has more of an impact on getting to the Qb. I think we should definitely address the OLB/MLB depth in the 3rd round, there is a ton of guys. But to me, Everette Brown is just as unpredictable as Gholston is right now...and with some open holes, and some positions that need upgrades, I feel like that is more important. Thats just my opinion, and your entitled to yours. I am just not a fan of who we have as ends right now on our team, so I would love to see a guy that has the ability to both be a run stopper but also ATHLETIC enough to get to the Qb. Thats all im saying...I don't mean to have a negative tone if thats how I come across.

I watched the Combine a lot, and one of the things I saw was how Raji out of BC might transcend into a DE in the NFL or NT, kind of like Haloti Ngata did before he became just a nose tackle. They said Raji has shown that he can get to the QB just as equally as he can run block, and he occupies blockers like none other. So i was just saying, I'd rather have a guy, that can do both things and his athletic to do both things.

As far as the 3-4 end, maybe im wrong, and ill admit it, but I still think we should address an upgrade at DE before we make upgrades at OLB. thats all

So. Mario Williams and Brian Orakpo were 3-4 defensive ends in college, yes?

Don't start backpedaling now, man. "Ridiculous," "my butt buddy..." stick to your guns, man. You clearly know a lot about football, I'm just trying to learn exactly how much.

The key to VG working out is Rex finding what he does best and letting him do it. Thats how it is, Ryan isn't going to try to fit a square peg into a round hole, anotherwords if VG cant drop back in coverage then you won't see him doing it.

Because of a poor combine Paul Kruger will likely go after the second round. Its worth taking a chance on him as an OLB. He played QB in HS and DE in college. If he plays LB in the pros he will be following the career path of Jack Lambert, he was pretty good.

He also has a knack for having 2 sacks in 27 career games.

I watched a lot of Utah, mainly because of Sean Smith -- I saw a lot of Paul Kruger.

Honestly, I see him as a 4-3 defensive end. I don't know if he has the right kind of athleticism to convert into a 3-4 LB.

In my next mock, I almost had us taking Kruger in the second round, but after watching him more closely, I changed the pick.

    Al Davis is that you?

If the Jets pick an OLB with their first pick they don't deserve to go to the playoffs this year or next year. That is about the worst decision we could make aside from drafting another god damned kicker.

What if that linebacker was Aaron Curry?

I don't want an OLB with our first rounder either, but there's not a better player in this draft...

Picking an OLB wont be a real option option unless Brown is their which he wont be at #17. Aaron Maybin probably will be their but i dont like him much,Barwin and English are great options in the 2nd but honestly i wouldnt mind waiting for Cody Brown in the 3rd is who i want if we draft an OLB in the mid rounds.

Our new HC has made good decisions so far. I am willing to bet he will want to work w/ VG for a year before pulling the plug.
21 had it right in the beginning. All those players the OP listed had multiple chances. Rex will give a second one to VG.
I'd be amazed if we didn't go offense in the first round. I'd like to see if we can trade down and still get Nicks or Harvin.
Like I said before, the Steelers proved you can win w/o a big WR.
