With all of our defensive holes filling up in free agency and there not really being any 3-4 de prospects in the late first round I can see rex going after Sean Smith. He is a safety cb prospect who is tall fast and a playmaker. He was a top ranked wr coming out of high school and the kid can flat out make plays. He has reported that hed rather play cb but would be open to whatever the coach asked him to do. I feel like that is because he doesn't like the contact involved with playing in the box. If rex plans on bringing in the 4-6 defense along with the 3-4 i feel like Smith can be the center fielder that is necessary to cover the deep third of the field while rhodes is in the box. Well with Lito Shepard on board, Corey Ivy looking like he's going to be a Jet and Dwight Lowery around, I don't see us bringing in another CB that early. And of course it seems as if Jim Leonhard will become a Jet as well. So he can play at SS along with recently resigned Abram Elam and maybe even Eric Smith. Again, I could see us bringing in another DB later on in the draft, but assuming we sign Leonhard our secondary seems pretty set to go. I think we should wait until the 2nd or 3rd to take a DE, especially considering the value. WR is our best bet at 17 when you factor in need vs. value.
When did Jim Leonhard become such a great player he is solid but isnt anything special if we sign sign id still pick Sean Smith if we could get him, bpa available should always be the strategy.
He said BAP for a reason - it's not about filling holes. It's about taking the best available player. For us to get Taylor Mays, we'll have to be a bottom ten team. Mays and Eric Berry should both go in the top ten. Berry may be the better pro prospect. The closer the draft gets, I see Sean Smith as the best choice at 17 -- over Malcolm Jenkins and my boy Mark Sanchez (only if the CS is sold on Clemens/Ratliff though).
How is it set? We have no depth on the defensive line and our safety spot opposite Rhodes is still vacant. ...and don't try to argue with me -- you said it best yesterday: You're absolutely right tom, I do know everything there is to know.
I am talking about who the Jets are taking in the 1st & 2nd round I am not talking about taking D line depth. I think with the moves they just made we are going to go O in the 1st 2 rounds of the draft.
And I would be fine with Elam going into next year as our saftey we cant have a great player at ever spot. We need a QB & a WR.
I wouldn't be. Sean Jones is still available as a free agent and I'd take him over both Elam and Leonhard. My dream of Page in Green & White is pretty much gone now that they put a 2nd round tender on him.
1. There's no such thing as a saftey - go to www.dictionary.com and/or learn how to fucking spell -- it kills your entire argument. 2. Yes, you can have a great player at every spot. They don't have to be the best player, but they can be great in your system. Abram Elam is a backup at best... 3. We do need a wide receiver, not a quarterback -- not yet at least. QB is a mystery right now - it's up for the coaches to solve that problem. Offense, in the the first TWO rounds? Really? The best teams build through the draft, not through free agency. We just picked up two very solid new starters and retained a former offensive linemen. There's no depth...on either side of the ball - If we take a defensive back like Sean Smith in the first, he'll provide us with so much versatility - he can play in every single defensive backfield package. Right now, there's no depth. If we draft a defensive lineman -- end or nose, it will provide us with a rotational player...giving our current starters a much needed rest through out games. Right now, there's no depth. If we draft a wideout, that player will hopefully become our #1 receiver. Behind Cotchery, we have a bunch of unproven or unworthy players. Right now, there's no depth. DO YOU GET IT NOW, tom?
Thank you for telling me things I already know but who is this great NT we are getting in the 1st round Raji will already be gone? DO YOU GET IT ?
No it didnt MB green but you are a one of the fags who have nothing to do but to come on this site & make fun of guys I know your act loser.
You're killin' me, spice. Sean Smith is a 'tweener prospect - he can play either cornerback or safety. Right now, we lack a clear cut starter opposite Rhodes. Smith wouldn't just be a dime back, but he could certainly line up there on certain plays. Smith is such a perfect defensive back prospect. He can play anywhere and have success. ...no, you were being accused of thinking you're better than everyone else. I'm still accusing you of that. He knows your act MB...he fuckin' knows your act.
