1) Tyson Jackson 6'4, 295 lbs 2) Jarron Gilbert 6'5, 290 lbs 3) Evander Hood 6'3, 300 lbs Don't count where you would take them in the draft -- if you could choose one of them, who would it be?
Jackson would probably be the best 3-4 DE, but based on value (where we would be able to get each of them in the draft) I would go with Gilbert as a 2nd/3rd round prospect over Jackson as a 1st/2nd.
I guess you missed the "Don't count where you would take them in the draft -- if you could choose one of them, who would it be?"
Tyson Jackson, but not by as much as you'd think. I won't bother mentioning value even as a side note, as I feel the best value for 3-4 linemen will be in round 3, largely with players not mentioned here. That and you just jumped on jasonjets for his side note, despite the fact that he answered your damned question.
I'd just like to know who is considered the best...I didn't jump on anyone. 'Twas a joke. The initial post was pretty clear..
The problem was you had Gilbert as a 2nd/3rd value and Jackson as a 1st/2nd, and then chose Gilbert. They are both late 1st/early-mid 2nd guys right now. All 3 of them are. Different question: Will Gilbert be available at our 2nd round pick?
him high no doubt in my mind.tyson jackson has the most upside.when he matures,he will be an awsome defensive end.the jets will probably have him high on their draft board.
i would rather use a 1st on a WR, so whoever the best 3-4 DE available when we pick in the 2nd is freaking awesome by me
Whaaaaaaaat? Weren't you the dude that called me stupid for saying Hood was a potential first rounder? I've been a Ziggy Hood supporter for a while now - he killed it at the combine and his stock increased...just like I thought. His motor is what sets him apart from the rest of the guys you mentioned. He may not have the height that Gilbert has, but when he's "on" his burst and first step are arguably the best out of any of the DTs available. He also uses his hands very well and has a pretty good feel for pass rushing -- you don't see that in most interior linemen. Jarron Gilbert has the most upside - with our situation, he wouldn't have to be a day one starter. He can learn how to play the position behind Ellis and Coleman, while the CS gradually eases him into the position. Tyson Jackson scares me - he looks like the proto-type 3-4 defensive end, but he doesn't play like one. Sometimes, the guy is more a ghost than Vernon Gholston...
I'm not talking about at #17, I'm just talking about in general of the 3 who will be the best 3-4 DE.
The safest pick to me is Jackson. He will be solid if not spectacular. The guy saw a double team all throughout college.. Gilbert would be#2 only because he played against weaker competition. He has the most athletic ability to me and the highest ceiling. Hood will be #3 for me, he seems to play real hard and has a mean streak but has a few holes in his technique and was picked apart a little at the senior bowl practices. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fiWgAZf0v4 Watch some of this and watch Ziggy's rear leg before and after the snap. The NFL guys didn't love his stance and how he has the habit of kicking back that back leg. They basically said if he does that shit in the NFL he will get blown back 2 yards. Not my words, out of the mouth of some scouts.
Ron Brace for me, he could be our Haloti Nagta, or Gilbert or Hood, all depending on when we would have to take them
Ron Brace is one of the most overrated players in this draft - BJ Raji is the reason for Brace's success.
