Yes they were. This is a low risk/high reward move. If it doesn't work out we lose a 5th and a 4th. No one should cry over that. If he nets Philly a 2nd, no one should cry over that neither.

Great question... i don't know what kinda talks there have been with his contract... but we really don't need any kind of primadonna, talkin it up until the season starts complaining about how he's gonna get paid.. then again it is the jets, so they'll prolly go above and beyond what's necessary

What are the odds that the JETS would be able to draft a starting caliber CB with a 5th rd draft choice?

    This was a good deal!

No idea since most of the time Asante didn't even cover the #1 WR

As crazy as this sounds, and this does sound crazy, you make a good point that is an excellent example for even 10 year olds to understand. Sheppard is much better than Ty Law or Dwight Lowery and for a 5th round pick, better than most on the market.

Sheppard has been a good player in the past. The injuries are the biggest problem. We didn't give up all that much for this gamble. I think it was a good move. I also hope we draft a good corner. And who knows about Lowery. Last season, he had flashes of brilliance. Hopefully he'll get better.

What about Mccallister? Also once an elite shut down, been injury prone lately, but his stock can't possibly be that high at all. Prolly wouldn't have cost much to bring him in and see what he'd be able to do?

I don't know if it's verification, but his Wikipedia page now says he's on the Jets. And no, I didn't put it there :)

Its official. If your username consists of "Jets" and a compilation of numbers and or "fan"... then you in fact might be a horrible poster.

    Yes, their are exceptions.

Does anyone know the terms of his contract?

I like the move but I am curious as to how much cap space he will take up.

This was a low risk, high reward move. He has three years left on his contract at $3 million a year, none of it guaranteed. If he doesn't pan out, the Jets lose two low draft picks. If he returns to form with an opportunity and coaching, you get an All-Pro caliber player.

Yes, the Jets could have gotten a better corner in free agency, and paid $10-15 million in guaranteed money and $5+ million a year in salary. Or they could have drafted a CB in the first round and given the same big money to a totally unproven player.

Why do peolple think that 5th round draft picks are guaranteed to be stars in the NFL??? Don't people realize that with a salary cap, you look to pick up players that outperform their contracts??? Sheppard has the potential to outperform his contract. It was worth the risk. It is a risk I consider far more sensible than the ridiculous flyer the Jets took on Favre last year.
