The great thing for Gholston and his family is that if he winds up doing nothing for the rest of his career, he can still live off the fat of the land 100 times over. What a country!

I do hope you're right, though. Jets DNA dictates they get rid of him only to see him hoist the Lombardi at (insert other team HERE). "I ain't no bust, Momma (tears of joy and vindication)!" The year they get rid of him, of course. :)

When I watched him last year it looked like he was trying to grasp way too much information. Plus, he missed a lot of the mini camps. But this year he's been working out at the training facility and it sounds like he's going to be ready to go. Add in one Coach Ryan who has an aggressive blitzing scheme and I think you will see Gholston on the field rushing the passer instead of dropping back into coverage. I think that will translate into a really good year for him (albeit maybe only as a passing down LB to start).

That's all he should have been doing in 2008, but Eric Mangini was the head coach/moron.

I know it! I was completely baffled by how they used him last year. It was borderline iritating to watch.

I wonder if we'll ever see the day when somebody picks up Gholston and starts him in our fantasy football league.

Or maybe the secondary can buy more time to get to the QB....

our pass rush actually did quite well early in the season...during the 2nd half of the season the team went conservative and teams torched our secondary all day
Rex is aggressive...and even if we have merely an average group of blitzers...i feel rex can make them effective
I agree with the thread starter...add Ivy and 2 more cbs then add Leonhard and at least one other safety
coleman/lowery/elam are going to have to play their way onto the team...and only lowery holds any trade value

Pretty good and Elam looks alot better then you think since he was argueably our best playmaker last season and adding Lito Sheppard along revis and dont think we actually officially signed him but Leonhard is decent enough to freeup Rhodes.

Rhodes, Leohnard, Revis, Sheppard, and Ivy is an extremely good secondary. It's an all-around really good lineup to have out there.

Scott is a good pass-rusher and run stuffer, so he was a nice addition, but getting an Olshansky or Canty would really make our defense great. That would allow us to go QB/WR in the draft and bring some more weapons to the offense.

At this point the entire defense looks great on paper. The LB core of Harris, Scott, and Pace is pretty good. Hopefully Gholston can do something and start over Thomas. The question is how the blitz schemes will work with this group. They still need to get to the QB which they need to prove.

I've been saying that for a while now - Gholston needs some time phasing in 1) at the NFL, and 2) at the OLB position. Mangini the Moron let him hang in the island - and I was thinking "just what the fuck is that moron doing with that kid???"
