Chiefs | Close to acquiring Vrabel Fri, 27 Feb 2009 11:42:09 -0800 Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports New England Patriots LB Mike Vrabel is in Kansas City undergoing a physical so he can then be traded to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Its offical.. Chiefs | Vrabel acquired Fri, 27 Feb 2009 12:10:54 -0800 Updating a previous report, John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports the Kansas City Chiefs have acquired LB Mike Vrabel from the New England Patriots for an undisclosed draft pick.
Would it have been worth the cap penalty, though? (Admittedly, I'm not entirely familiar with how trades affect the salary cap, but I'm making an educated guess that the agreement granting Coles free agency provided more salary relief than a trade would've.)
Now there is some speculation that Cassel might be involved in this trade. I'm thinking maybe a 1st and Tony G for Cassel and Vrabel?
Why would the Patriots want another tight end? They just signed Chris Baker and they already have David Thomas and Ben Watson.
Ah, that's a good point, I forgot about that. Maybe Waters is involved? Or two firsts for Vrabel and Cassel?
This really caught me off guard. I know that he's very unpopular amongst many on this site, but I always found him to be one of the more witty and intelligent guys in the NFL in his interviews. I've heard BB say a million times how Vrabel is one of the smartest players he's ever coached, but clearly he's in decline. Getting a draft pick in return for a declining player and clearing 3 million of cap space? That's bold, and heartless.
And the Chiefs continue to amaze me.... not for anything but what would they want with Vrabel? He really isn't that good (he's not terrible either) . My guess is that he's not to happy about this.....
The Chiefs were terrible anyway, so they agreed to let Pioli turn it into the Pats' farm team. They'll be sending the Pats picks for their trash every season now.
