If the Ravens were going to give Scott that kind of coin they would have done so before free agency started. Incidentally, I wouldn't be as sure as some are that Ray Lewis would come any cheaper. Will be interesting to see what he signs for. Just because he's older doesn't mean he'll be cheaper.
It's a smart move for him and it's showing loyalty to the team that drafted him. It's a dick move to do it while sitting in Tannenbaum's office, though.
People around here need to relax some, they seem to think Scott owes us something and not the Ravens, you know the team he played for his entire career.
Before free agency, the Ravens wanted to keep both Scott and Lewis. Lewis has given that organization the middle finger, so now the Ravens have more money to throw at Scott.
Sorry I have never done that. I have asked for a raise and either gotten it or not. By the point I have started looking for another job, my old employer had no chance of keeping me. They were given the opportunity and elected not to take advantage.

Yes, the Ravens wanted to bring both back. But Lewis has been quoted talking about Dallas or some other team for the past two weeks. I really doubt the Ravens would suddenly decide after free agency started that they might have a hard time retaining Lewis, or that they want to give Scott $40 million today after not wanting to yesterday. Just seems like people are freaking out over what is probably a fairly standard situation: free agent tells former team what his offer is to give them a chance to match (and normally they don't).
