I will admit, Ive never seen Barwin play. But wow, I see potential. 6'4'' 255, 4.65 ish, round 2 or 3. http://www.draftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/de/Connor-Barwin.php Due to youtube being gay, and deleting an account of someone who had a ton of film of any player you wanted, its hard to see him in action. I know we have Gholston, and the other OLB's. But you can never have enough pass rushers right? Would love this kid. Rex could make him a star.
I first saw Connor Barwin as a freshman 3 years ago when RU travelled to Cinci for Men's basketball, and the game notes said he played football as well (he was an undersized 4 on the BBall team). He was a tough, decent TE, but he just turned into a monster at Defensive End. He's athletic, moves well in space, and is just a relentless defender. If he works out well, he's going to skyrocket, because defensive coaches are going to love his potential. At this point, if the Jets wanted to add another 34 OLB, then I'd be very, very happy with him in the 2nd round. It sounds like a stretch, but that may be a bargain come April.
Yeah, hes a very good athlete. With the little film ive seen, he has extremely quick feet, and hard driven motor. Looks awesome.
have u seen a lot of him on tape?? he DID have an amazing combine. maybe he'd be a possibility for us in the 2nd.
He's only played defense for one season...he was a basketball player and a tight end before making the switch to defensive end. His success at the position shows how much athleticism and potential he has. Barwin led the Big East in sacks with 11 and he was just learning how to play the position. He's got one of the best motors that I've ever seen - Barwin was so successful at DE because he wants to make an impact on every play - he doesn't quit. A true hustler. It looks to me like he relied a lot on his athleticism and not very much technique - if someone shows this kid how to play the right way on every snap, he'll be great. I think he has the ability to play 3-4 OLB in the NFL. At the combine, Barwin said a lot of teams are looking at him as a 3-4 OLB. This video shows how good he can be:
I'm going to go out on a bit of a limb and say he may end up going as high as #23 to the Pats to play OLB/TE that they love so much (Vrabel) or even to the Bears at #18 if they feel he's a 4-3 DE..
I said before the combine and I'll say it again. I've seen him play in person in 2 different sports at 3 different positions and I want him bad if the team is looking to add another 3-4 OLB early. A great athlete with a better motor, there's no way he won't be a quality player for us.
I don't like his speed in that video. He does, however, have GREAT instincts and reads plays amazingly well. That is, however, the highlight reel, and thus doesn't tell me much. Looks like a football player, though.
your going way out on the limb...as much potential as he might have, there is no way he's going in the first round.
Just wait and see. There's always a few surprise first round picks.. He certainly could be one of them..
if they get an OLB for the 3-4 in the first round, or even second round, the kid would be Clay Matthews...
Barwin has tremendous upside and was a solid 2nd round pick before he tore it up at the combine and proved his athleticism. He definitely has high first round consideration IMO since Aaron Maybin and Larry English didn't exactly help themselves either..
Barwin's success could help us out in the second - English's mediocre combine could cause him to slide to our second round pick.
Evander Hood, who was once considered a 'definite' second round choice, is now being considered a late first round defensive tackle after a extremely good combine. Guys always rise and fall before draft time. There's a huge possibility that a team will take a shot on Barwin in the first round.
