what if we draft an OT in the first round as they have an abundance of good tackles this year. Move woody to RG.

Depends on who's available and at what pick.

I could see it happening. It wouldn't be the sexy pick and, as fans, we've starved to see an early playmaking/gamebreaker taken, but if it's for the best of the team, then go for it.

Either way, next year we'll be looking for some OL as both Woody and Faneca will be longer in the tooth.

Phil Loadholt in the 3rd round. Then move Woody over.

If you're drafting in the third, then get Trevor Canfield out of Cincinatti and don't bother moving Woody at all.

easier to replace a guard than a tackle.

Yeah, why would we move Woody to guard?

only if a better, youthful guard is there... then the Jets have bookends for years to come in said drafted player and D Brick... moving woody to guard makes his replacement easier in the next draft.

i just thought because there are a lot of good OT prospects, more than in recent drafts.

I thought that Damien Woody played guard for a while during his career. This would give us the flexibility to sign or draft the BPA at OG or OT and move Woody to the other spot.

Woody is still a much better guard then tackle.

I think the point is, if we have to then we can slide him over, depending on whether or not we draft a G or T.

Because of Woody's versatility, I don't see this turning into another Kendall situation; besides, Ryan and Callahan know and value the OL's importance.

I wonder if he didn't give a shit anymore over there. he was exponentially better here as a tackle... the OL has to work together too, and he has nothing to work with over there.

Woody made the Pro Bowl as an interior lineman for the Patriots. And was a starter on their Superbowl team. He could play inside no problem.

If someone like Loadholt were available with our second pick (and he might be) that could be a very good situation. Phil is gigantic at 6-8 and has the wingspan and strength to be a solid RT.

I'd much prefer to go defense with our first rounder and OL in the second. We could definitely get a starting OL there. First round OL are usually LT, which we don't need.

Detroit is not exactly a hotbed of football smarts lately. He preformed well for us last year, os I'm more inclined to belive the Detroit situation was as much about coaching and poorlineman around him as his own play.

I'd rather sign a certain free agent for this than use a draft selection:

Ray Willis, RG/RT from the Ravens

He is going to be an unrestricted free agent starting this Friday and he has started at both RG and RT for the Ravens.

He is 6'6 and 330 lbs and is a mauler. He and Woody are both versatile RG/RT types and we can put them wherever we think they fit best.

The best part is that Ray Willis is only 26.

"02/13/09 - OL Ray Willis will be an unrestricted free agent. He plays with a mean streak and started 10 games at both right guard and right tackle. May command more money than team is willing to pay him."

Rex Ryan is familiar with him and if we cut Moore I would not be surprised at all if we brought in Willis - he helped contribute to the Ravens great rushing attack last year and to protecting Flacco so he could throw.

I don't know how much money Willis will command but the Jets cannot give out another big contract to an offensive lineman. With Woody and Faneca making a ton of money and Brick and Mangold not to far off from their 2nd contracts they need to either keep Moore or replace him with a draft pick or cheap signing.

GM.....I think you may be on to something. I've always felt Woody was a better interior lineman and questioned the move to RT last season.

Willis may project better a RT. The only concern.....why are we cutting Moore and pay Willis a shit load of money? Moore hasn't been officially cut yet......so it's all speculation.

I dont want to go O-Line in the first round.

I think the Jets should go defense. I like Vontae Davis at 17 if he is available.

What about giving Turner and Hunter a shot at the position.. they have both been in the team for a long time and playing alongside 4 1st round picks in the o-line can't be that bad can it?
I suspect we'll draft someone in the 3rd/4th round anyways.. to develop him...
