I haven't bothered researching, so maybe someone knows offhand; what teams, if any, have two starting CBs that were both R1 picks and both drafted/signed around the same time by that team? I ask because I'm wondering what would happen if we draft, say, Vontae Davis (or if Jenkins slips), and they become studs. We'd have to eventually re-sign Revis and the younger, drafted CB, thus pouring a lot of money into CB -- maybe even money we won't be able to come up with. The point is, does the staff take this kinda stuff into consideration when drafting? Would it be smarter to use the R1 pick on a different position of need/value (e.g. WR, possibly OL, LB etc)? Or do they say "fuck it," and hope that the drafted player yields the benefits and is a part of a Championship team before his first contract is up?
Eagles, 2002 draft 1. Lito Sheppard 2a. Sheldon Brown 2b. Michael Lewis (safety) Revis in '06 and somebody in '09. That's a difference in three years. Here are two similar examples. Cardinals drafted Antrel Rolle in rd 1 in 2005 and took Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie in 1st round in '08. Now, of course, Rolle was converted to safety. Redskins drafted safety Sean Taylor in 2004 1st round and drafted safety LaRon Landry in 2007 1st round.
you take the best player available who will help your team win... If it is a corner then it is a corner ...the best example of big money spent on corners was the Raiders last year Asomugha was franchised and deangelo hall was traded for and given a big time corner deal...
I'm all for BPA and value, as I think this is the smartest draft strategy. I'm just wondering if it's better to invest a lot money in CB if it's the best pick at that selection, or is it better to invest in another position (e.g. WR) and try to get a CB later and one that'll cost less.
I dont think Vontae Davis will be there at 17. He's having a pretty good combine. Maybe he'll screw up in interviews.
I hope the second group of DBs is more exciting. The first group was very disappointing...especially Emanuel Cook and Malcolm Jenkins.
Very disappointing performance by the DB's this year When you get a sub-par group like this, you're almost better off passing on DB's early and waiting till the middle rounds Reason being, there may not be much difference between the DB's who are drafted early and the DB's who are drafted later with so few DB's separating themselves from the pack I can probably draft a DB in the 4th RD who has all of the same measurbles as the guy you drafted in the 2nd
Popeye, would you take him at 17 to play Safety opposite Kerry Rhodes? Its a question worth entertaining because IMO there's a pretty good chance (post combines) he will be there at 17
With the not so great of a combine held by a ton of players, its fixing to get us a very good player at 17. Sanchez, Jenkins, Davis, Wells, Moreno, Crabtree, Maulauga..
I wouldn't want Vontae, when it's a known fact his work ethic is questionable given his brother is Vernon Davis. I don't know if thats credible, but the way I see it, if you want to play you ill give 100%, I liked Vontae Davis in college just like I liked his brother Vernon "Randy-Mossing" DBs in college, but success in college needs to translate to the Pro level.
