What did he do on the football field. Remember what happened the last time we drafted a player based on 40 times. Vernon I can't tackle my shadow Gholston!

On the football field he had 20+ interceptions and is a willing tackler. His only negative at this point is lack of height (5-9). He does everything else well but some had questions about his long speed.

Gholston had an outstanding career as a college football player. You've been reminded of this numerous times before but continue to ignore that fact and spew nonsense like this.

Was it worthy of him being the sixth pick in the draft? He got a large majority of his sacks in two games last year and his claim to fame was he beat Joe Thomas for a sack or something like that. Half the so called draft Gurus said he would be the bust of the draft last year. We picked him because of his combine and let the two true football players we needed and not workout warriors slip in mayo and Mckelvin. His draft stock shot because of 40 times and bench presses not playing football. I hope your right and he is a football player. We will find out soon enough. I just find it odd that a pass rushing specialist who was picked at 6 could not make it on the field for at least third and long plays for this team last year when there was nothing else to do but get at the QB. Not like he had to read a defense or anything like that in those situations.

WSW already posted VG's awards during his NCAA days. So I don't need to prove it was not a "stretch" to say he had a good career at Ohio State. I just find it funny when in another thread your complaining about someone's intelligence yet you are obviously uninformed about Gholstons college days then dumb enough to make comments anyway. Ignorance bliss for you huh?

Do those awards mean he is an even bigger bust than everyone already thinks he is?

They mean he was a pretty dominant player at the college level.

piling up sacks against teams like Youngstown St. and disappearing in important games isn't a great college career in my mind.

Those are two season...not one flukey little season like the one Matt Cassell had last yr. I don't follow college but apparently, Gholston had an excellent college career, shined in the combines and made perfect sense to be drafted in the top 10. He had a change of position, combined with Mangina HCing. He should become a dominant pass rusher, hopefully by his third year. He should be good this yr I hope as Rexy better take the best out of him.

I think this season will tell us if the problem is Gholston, or Mangini.

Remember on the other side of the ball Clowney could not get on the field either, and even though he was on the field, Leon did not get adequate touches....

My understanding was that the big games were when he "showed up". I don't have time to look into it right now, but I will tonight.

Fair point but he was also second team in 2006 and had a bunch of sacks.

How did a thread about Alphonso Smith turn into a Gholston = Bust thread?

a 3.98? On numerous sites it says a 4.45 , his peak has been a 4.37. Going to the combine, Smith said that he isn't going to run a 4.2, but he has room for improvement. I cant post links yet because of my post count, but its found on numerous sites around the league that he's certainly not running a 3.98 40.

I wouldn't draft him just because of his height.

He had his best game of maybe his career against Jake Long...idk if youve ever heard of him, but those were the only sacks he gave up the entire year, and last year Long was perhaps the most impressive rookie. Now, I'm not a Vernon fan and don't necessarily believe hes going to be a Suggs, but your comment is just so falacious I was to tempted to call you out...sorry
