Here's my newest mock: Free Agency: Jim Leohnard Bart Scott Leigh Bodden Looks like we're gonna have a good amount of cap space going in to FA, so this is fairly realistic. Leohnard looks like a lock to be a Jet. He's nothing special, but a solid Safety option and an upgrade over Smith and Elam. Scott would really sure up our LB corps and is just a great addition in general. He brings attitude and coverage ability. Bodden is one of the big underrated CB on the market. Greer, McFadden, and Bartell will get big time money, whereas Bodden will get a decent contract because of his rough year in Detroit. He's still one of the better Corners in football and will be a big improvement for our secondary. Draft: Trade: NY Jets trade pick 17 to Minnesota for 22 and 3rd round draft pick. This trade makes sense to me for a lot of reasons. Minnesota would be trading up ahead of Tampa here to grab Freeman. 22: Kenny Britt. I want a WR, but I don't like DHB, Maclin is too small, and Nicks is more of a great possesion receiver. Britt has everything I want in a WR. Good speed, good hands, and good size. Britt would be a huge for Clemens/Ratliff. 52: Shonn Greene. I really think Greene will be there at this point. He didn't have a breakout combine, so this is a pretty realistic pick. Greene is exactly what the Jets need right now. He gives us a good power back to compliment Leon and TJ. I really think Greene can be one of the best backs in the league for the next 5-6 years. 78: Fili Moala. Our first defensive pick here. The Jets really need some NT depth to spot Jenkins every three plays or so. Moala would fill that role nicely for us. 86 (from Vikings): Kevin Ellison. I know we bring in Leohnard, but Ellison is one of my favorite players from this draft. He has good size and can really hit, which would be a nice compliment to Leohnards style. 111: Craig Urbik. With the loss of Moore, the Jets are gonna need some more O-line depth. Urbik is a solid player all-around. 114: Jasper Brinkley. Mocks have him going all over the place, so this could be either a reach or an unrealistic pick. But regardless, Brinkley has big time potential and would be a solid pick. 5th round (not sure of the number): Graham Gano. Maybe a round early, but we really need a Punter because Hodges didn't cut it. Draft Analysis: With the Jets addressing main defensive needs (LB/CB/S) in the draft, it allows them to give Clemens/Ratliff some big time weapons in the 1st 2 rounds. Britt is a playmaker who can stretch the field. Greene makes our run game one of the best in the league. We get some good DL depth with Moala. After that, the picks are either for depth or based on the players ceiling. This draft fills any remaining holes. Depth Chart: QB-Clemens-Ratliff RB-Jones-Leon-Greene FB-Richardson (re-signed) WR-Britt-Cotchery-Coles-Clowney-Stuckey-Smith-Wright OL-D'Brick-Faneca-Mangold-Turner-Woody-Urbik NT-Jenkins-Moala DE-Ellis-Coleman-Moala LB-Pace-Scott-Harris-Gholston-Thomas-Trusnick-Brinkley CB-Revis-Bodden-Lowery-Poteat-Carroll S-Rhodes-Leohnard-Ellison K-Feely (re-signed) P-Gano Other than maybe QB, there are no holes on this team. Even though both Clemens and Ratliff are unproven, but it's time to let these kids fight it out. Our run game and line are both superb, and with the addition of Britt and increased role of Clowney, our WR will be much improved. On the defensive side, every hole from last season is filled. We get a #2 corner, some NT depth, better Safety play, and a big time LB who can actually cover.
franchise QB = division contenders every year and then some. EDIT: didn't mean that this draft needed one... just meant as an overall statement.
I would have waited until tomorrow to see how the DBs perform, but it doesn't matter much. I like the signings and they're realistic. Leigh Bodden would be a great pickup. If the Vikings fall in love with Josh Freeman, this trade would make very logical sense, which is something you don't see in many mock drafts with trades here. And since we had a good free agency period, I would be perfectly OK adding a tall WR. I'm not sure about going offense back to back though. Isn't Moala a 3-4 DE? Maybe we can go for someone like Ron Brace, Sammie Hill or Terrence Taylor. And I would like to see us bring in another DB at some point in the draft even if we sign Leonhard. Have to like Jasper Brinkley. I think he'll be a day one choice though based on his combine. And Ubrik is a big mauling guard that would be a nice fit if we decide to run the ball more. And since we drafted Shonn Greene to team with Jones and Washington, that looks like the case. I would have liked to see us add a veteran QB though such as Byron Leftwich or Ryan Fitzpatrick though. I like this offseason though. Well done
To the guy who said we need a Franchise QB, I really like Josh Freeman. I'm probably one of the only ones on here, but I'd be ecstatic if we took Freeman. Hmm, I thought Moala was a 3-4 NT. Brace would be a really good pick, but I think he's not gonna be around until the 3rd and isn't worth a 2nd. The other DB I have coming in is Ellison. I also like Chung a lot, he's definitely an option in the 2nd round.
Why? He's a legitimate first round talent. Plus given how well the team did in free agency, offense is certainly very much in the question..
LEigh Bodden is decent...but he isnt the answer at number 2...rather have Lowery...I think we have to go Mcfadden or Greer if we go FA for CB 2...did Nwandi get tagged??
Britt is definitely a 1st rounder IMO. He has good hands, is physical, great size, and good speed. To the guy above me, Lowery over Bodden? McFadden and Greer will get huge contracts. If we're gonna pay big money for a CB, I'd prefer to go with Bartell.
I doubt Poteat and Carroll get re-signed Poteat will likely follow Mangini to the Browns I would expect us to sign 2 FA cb's and add one in the draft...and bring in a few udfa's Revis and Lowery are probably going to be the only carry overs at cb...i see coleman getting beat out by just about anyone after the way the kendall situation blew up in our face...i'd imagine the FO would spend an early pick at OG or sign a potential starter...i don't think they would put their hopes to wayne hunter or a mid to late round rookie
The draft advisory committee gave him a 1st RD Grade when he was trying to make a decision on whether or not to declare I'm not saying he's a first rounder and I'm sure the advisory committee told him there are no guarantees, but when it comes to projections the advisory committee does their homework unlike any scouting service, they speak to tons of NFL people who make these decisions and try to give these kids the information they need to make an informed decision BTW, I said the same thing, I also said Britt probably carries a 2nd RD Grade, but when I said that to my man at DraftDaddy he informed me about the advisory committee's recommendation which I had not known
Britt is probably an early 2nd rounder. Plus, there's no way you can take him over Heyward-Bey after the combine. I'm not a fan of combine heroes like Gholston, but Heyward-Bey ran a 4.30 and has size and strength. He has got to be the 3rd WR taken after Crabtree and Maclin... the only other WR I can see before him is MAYBE Harvin, but probably not.
I don't like DHB and there's no assurance that he'll even be there at 17. From what i've seen, Britt is more physical than DHB as well. Also, it looks like Malcolm Jenkins has fallen out of the Top-10. He's in my Top 5 overall and would kill for us to take him. He'd be awesome at either CB or Safety.
IMO Britt is a better WR than DHB They are both the proverbial BIG WR's everyone is looking for, Britt slightly bigger and Bey slightly faster, but both have outstanding size/speed ratios so the tiebreaker for me is "actual production" and that's where Kenny Britt blows DHB out of the water, its not even close, its a statistical rout I think we here in the NY/NJ area (including myself) are all guilty of perhaps not fully appreciating that with which we are most familiar, which is always a trap, when you see something all the time (as most of us have seen Britt) the luster can wear off over time and we may not fully appreciate the beauty Again, I'm as guilty as anyone if not moreso ... Just last week I said to a friend of mine that only Crabtree, Maclin and Harvin should carry first round grades, and I didn't include Britt even though I ranked him at #4 in my pre combines positional rankings, and that was before he ran in the 4.4's which I did not anticipate (I expected the 4.5's) But then my guy at DraftDaddy told me Britt recieved a first round grade from the draft advisory committee and it got me to thinking that perhaps I have fallen into that old trap of not fully appreciating that which is most familiar to you, because if Britt wasn't from Rutgers and I wasn't so used to seeing him I would definitely be calling this guy a first rounder He is everything I look for in a WR from a measurbles perspective and his prodiction was through the roof, so what exactly is there not to love about this player? This guy is that BIG WIDEOUT everyone is looking for, and he runs in the 4.4's at 6' 3"/220, and his numbers were off the charts in 2008 (with Mike Teel at QB, not some Super Blue Chipper), so why would Britt NOT be a first round pick? Honestly, I can't think of a good reason????? I too kept saying he's a 2nd rounder, but I can't defend that position the more I think about it I can think of plenty of reasons to draft this kid in RD 1, but I can't think of any good reasons not too? This is the BIG WR everyone in the league is looking for, with the obscene production (at D1A) to boot PS. Britt was also one of the leaders amongst wideouts at the combines with 23 BP Reps of 225 Pounds
I like Nicks over Britt, especially if Clowney gets his chance to be a burner in this year's Offense. I just feel that Nicks is the more complete ready-made NFL WR.
