Then I think this argument should go both ways. Jerry Jones should be able to go to T.O. and say "I want some money back. You sucked this year, and I thought you'd be better. I want a new contract drawn up until you can show me that you can play better!"
he can credit his stats to his offensive line, i like tj but he wasnt worth 20 mil, and im amazed he'll bitch about getting paid $900k a year...he signed for 4 years, so hes making 5 mil/year....thats plenty
because he wasnt leading the nfl in rushing the year that he signed that deal. he also wasnt in new york when he signed that deal? i accepted a raise last year at work, i did things this year that make me feel as though i am worth more than i was last year. i will ask for a larger raise this year. there is no way in hell that i will sit here and say that someone else should be vilified for doing the exact same thing. if i did my job my employer would not be able to terminate my contract without cause, thats not the case in the nfl. they will ask a guy who has done his job to restructure or take a pay cut. and that in my eyes isnt cool. but thats what they are allowed to get away with. i can live with it, but i cant sit here and watch the nfl screw guy after guy and get mad at someone who does a good job and asks for a raise. maybe he is asking for more money but only for 2 years? i know if i was 31 and my career was only going to last 3 or 4 more years i sure as hell would want to make every single cent i possibly could. i dont mean to get so annoyed and bitch like i did but i just get tired of guys being called scumbags when they ask for a raise. and i wasnt saying those things about anyone in particular or even just aimed at the guys in this thread those statements were in response to this thread as well as a hundred others on here.

I'm not sure I'd want them to keep giving him money when he plays one of the most easily fill-able positions in the league.
I think last year's performance evens out pretty nicely with two years ago's whopping 2 touchdown year at 5 mil/year.

Dude, this is not the typical work environment. This is sports. You can be a great lawyer even when you ar 65 yrs old. You cant be a great running back once you hit the 30-32 yrs mark. Its that simple If he was 27 and asked for a raise with such a performance, I wouldn't mind. But at 31 and making $5mil a yr, you better take it or leave it. RBs are dime a dozen past 30s. About your paycut and pay raise scenario...How often do you see someone take a pay cut in the NFL? And how often do you see people ask for a raise in the NFL? How often do you live up to your contract? How often do you AGREE to take a paycut after an 1100 yds season with one TD being the workhorse? Jets didn't ask him to take a paycut after such a season so he has no right to ask for a pay raise after a good season. A good season also means that a yr of your career just ended. Yes contracts are backloaded and that should serve as a motivation. It is meant to be. Look at Peyton Manning. He'll be making over $20 mil this yr. Indy would never cut him if he wasn't that good. They will pay him that much if they can't restructure. They will never dump him. Prove it to the team that the backloaded money is worth being paid for. When you sign the contract, you know that if you don't live up to the expectations, you won't get to see the last couple of yrs of the contract. BTW what are your thoughts about Gholston, his production, and his contract??? Im sure you'll defend him... He's worth maybe the league minimum unless he shows something.

You are right on the general point of some fans here not acknowledging that if a contract can be restructured to the player's detriment, they can also be restructured to the player's benefit. And yes a player should not be labeled a scumbag for asking to have a contract redone, particularly someone like Jones who had a good year. But the real point here is whether it makes business sense for the Jets to redo his contract, or try and hold him to it. That is not so clear an answer.
Sure, re-do his contract..as long as he gives back everything including his bonus for the 1 TD season he had in '07. He was useless then.

Trade him. He's 30. He's not getting a raise. Consider what he was paid for the '07 season when he had 1TD as collateral for what he's not getting now.
Why should we let him go? He is dirt cheap this year. We should keep him and develop another back this year behind him.
bingo.. this is how successful franchises continue to be at the top... TJs gone after his contract? Get an equal or better replacement... kind of like Addai for Edge, or the Titans/Broncos revolving door of RBs, the Giants after Tiki.... its about getting the younger players that can play at a cheaper price. Good drafting or FA does that.
And the team did not make the playoffs in the year he did well. If you are a great employee and your company does not have a good year do you think you will be getting a raise? Especially if your a few years from being shown the door and can be replaced as well. The reality of his situation is he is a thirty year old Rb in the Nfl and in real world he would be 65 with a 24 year old right out of college ready to take his place for a lot less money. With our line a 2nd rd pick could prob get 1,000 yards next year. Leon could get 1,000 yards. He needs to shut up and collect his money.
