good Leonhard is someone ive been high on even before the season was over. the guys a ballhawk. and a nice punt returner. pssh dolphins vs jets again? right im gonna guess that we win that war again too. the dolphins are worried about re-signing their starting S and CB in Bell and Goodman. every move weve made up to this point was to pick up either Lewis/Scott and Leonhard and thats all coming together.
leonhard worked wonders for them. by no means is he a superstar or anything of the nature, but i watched alot of ravens games last year. and the guy is ALWAYS around the ball, if hes not making the tackle you see him a yard or two from the play. hes definitely a solid player that Ryan knows can succeed in his system. plus hes got good athleticism. pretty nice punt returner also. i was talking to vick blows during the BAL VS MIA playoff game and told him. god i hope we get Rex ryan as our coach and he brings Leonhard here. lol well a victory for me then huh? lets hope i was right. those are the moves i wouldve made if i ran this team. and if i end up with some humble pie fine, lol. im jus glad theyre doing something
God we do need to come away with Scott, to make all these cuts worth it. But I think if the money is even, scott comes to NY, I mean Miami would have to offer him like 10-12 million a year for 5 years, to get him away from us. I honestly think our max offer for Bart is going to be about 9 million a year.
I was a fan of Leonhard when I saw him play at the end of the year, and he played well. No clue if he was an impact player all year long though? But bottom line, Rex knows him, and he will most likely be an addition to the team in place of Elam or E. Smith. It's a step in the right direction, but I really wonder if anyone on this board followed the Ravens from week 1 on? If so, I'd love to hear a more details account of this guys year, and the impact he can have for us.
Gotta post the entire article about the Jets: http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/2009/02/diner-morning-news-15/ The Jets have been very busy getting under the cap and have made several moves to accomplish this. I’ve been on the record saying the Jets were $34 million over the cap, and now they’re below the cap and in position to make moves at a few Baltimore linebackers. Here’s what they did: CUTS: Brett Favre – saved $13 million of their ‘09 cap. David Barrett – saved $5.1 million of their ‘09 cap David Bowens – saved $2.6 million of their ‘09 cap. Chris Baker — saved $2.1 million of their ‘09 cap. Brandon Moore — saved roughly $5 million of their ‘09 cap. These savings represent $27.8 million of their 2009 cap. RENEGOTIATED: Calvin Pace – saved $4.7 million on a restructured deal. Kerry Rhodes – saved $4.9 million on a restructured deal. These two renegotiated deals allowed the Jets pick up almost $10 million of cap room. They had two deals that increased in value, probably due to an earned escalator: Darrell Revis – increased by $5.7 million. Dustin Keller – increased by $170,000. Now that they have cap room, the Jets can make a move for Bart Scott and possibly Ray Lewis. While in Indy, I learned that all indications are that the Jets will sign Jim Leonhard, the safety from the Ravens, as soon as the free-agent market opens. This year, the Dolphins and the Jets will battle once again over a player, as reports from Indy suggest that both teams will “go to the mat” to obtain the services of Scott. In addition, the word from Indy seems to suggest the Jets are happy with their quarterback situation and will allow Kellen Clemens and Brett Ratliff to compete for the starting position. All this cap room they created had many wondering if the Jets would go after a quarterback, but there seems to be very little indication that will happen. Now that the Jets have the room, they need to fix some the areas of concern. It will be an interesting week of free agency.
Say what you want about Woody and our front office but we are not cheap and we are in good hands with Tannenbaum. After the spending spree last year to be able to still add players to the team and not be in cap hell is a great job by the GM. We are gonna win a championship in the next 2 years
well i hope your right about the championship, but i totally agree on tanny. i couldn't believe people wanted him gone after the season as well. all the guy has done since getting here is take us from cap hell to well under the cap in like a week. he has improved the talent on the team, and is looking to improve the talent again this year. his only blunder that i can see is supporting mangini.
I'm liking every move Ryan has done so far. I think Scott decides between the Phins and Jets, he will decide to reunite with Rex in NY.
leonhard will make rhodes better...and on unless the phins over pay for scott i would imagine we have better odds to get him
Parcells is a vindictive little bastard, isn't he. Maybe the Phins just want to drive up the price on Bart Scott....like we did with Calvin Pace last year...when we convinced him to come to NYC instead of Miami.
Leonhard has the advantage that he knows Ryan's system already. He's not the most gifted guy but did his job very well within that system. Signing a guy like him not only adds a solid player next to Rhodes but gives the DB's an additional guy to look toward with questions on the system. All in all a good thing for the Jets. Get it done.
If we are able to land Leonhard and Scott, then draft a CB and a DE on day one I'll be ecstatic about what our defense looks like on paper.
does this mean we can let rhodes do his blitzing/roving not unlike reed, and let leonhard be a good safety?
