If there is something I truly hate, it's when a player goes to the draft, and then refuses part of the workout. It seems that most of the QBs didn't throw, including Matthew Stafford. I really hate this. One QB who did throw was Pat White, and from what I read here, he put on a clinic. I know that practical draft wisdom says he doesn't project to QB in the NFL, but during the combine, he threw like one. His best throws were the deep outs. So the guy has a cannon for an arm, can throw accurately, and can run but doesn't get "happy feet" cannot be an NFL QB? Someone explain to me why a guy who can make all throws, is a natural leader, AND has unbelievable athletic ability as well as football instincts cannot succeed in the NFL.
im not gonna run, before the combine I was one of the people saying no chance at qb. after today I'll give him some wiggle room. I'm just not a big fan of Rich Rodriguez system if I was looking to develop a QB. thats my main issue. I think people questioned his accuracy and he obviously proved hes got it. He obviously did nothing but help his chances after the combine. Maybe now he'll get some private QB workouts as opposed to just working as a wideout at his Pro Day. im still skeptical but now I wont instantly label him a slot reciever. great athlete and will be interesting to see how the scenario plays out. I think if he was taller and heavier, then we probably wouldnt be having this conversation and the scouts would be sucking him off. we'll see though.
Undersized, coming from a system that doesn't translate to the NFL. There's no doubt that he has the tools, but teams don't want to take a chance on his size and the fact that he needs to learn a whole new playing style. May as well call him Project Pat. There are a lot of teams now running the spread option, which leads to a difficult transition, and is reason why Tebow isn't projected as a QB. However, when guys like Colt McCoy and Sam Bradford come out (although Bradford runs a modified spread option, they'll have their size AND tools to go on. I like Pat White. Someone will give him a chance, and in a couple of years, he just might be solid.
Pat White was the best QB at the combine yesterday. Assuming Stafford and Sanchez are gone at #17 (safe assumption), if I were Rex. I'm grabbing the best available CB at 17 (DJ Moore or ASmith) then hoping Pat White is still there in Round 2. Pat White can not only run the option and burn. The kid has a big time arm and he's accurate. He's the one 6'0" option QB that I truly believe is going to be a great starter in this league, he can make all the throws and his athletism and ability to create out of the pocket is off the charts.
Pat White will be an NFL QB. Maybe not the whole game I think he will be used smartly by the right team Give him 15 snaps behind center each game
I watched his workout on ESPN, and man did he look impressive! I think he's one guy that could fill 3 roster spots. This would be great because you could fill 3 needs with only 1 guy. I'd definetly draft this kid.
Yeah, that'll happen. Some team will draft him so they can interrrupt their team's flow and give him 15 snaps a gaime. :rofl2:
watched the workout and liked what i saw. i had him totally written off before seeing him work out. i am confused on where white could go in the draft. i have heard that sanchez might be falling out of round one after his workout, i have also heard that he might be challenging stafford as the number 1 qb. if white is available when we pick in round 2 i think its worth taking a risk on him.
Honestly, signing Scott and Leonhard in FA, picking up the best corner available in round 1 and taking White in round 2 might be a really good route to go. QB workouts are a lot different than a game, but White spoke pretty loudly with his performance at the combine. It was something along the lines of "REMEMBER ME? I'M STILL HERE." Edit - Also, Trevor Canfield in the third to replace Moore. Mmm. Draftlicious.
yeah he helped himself a lot with that workout. i didn't pay attention to any senior bowl stuff this year but i went and looked at how he did there too. he was also impressive the entire senior bowl, and even played well in the game. i never thought i would be in favor of a running qb, but white is growing on me at the moment. this guy has a ton of upside on him, and i think a second round pick is worth the risk on that type of potential.
I know someone is going to do it at some point, so I'll just address it now - The Brad Smith comparison. No. They are both mobile QBs, that's where it stops. Brad Smith is faster and has much better cutting ability than Pat White. Pat White is more accurate and has a stronger arm. Heck, Smith is right handed and White is left. The only place where they are really similar is in their leadership qualities, and it is never a bad thing to have players like that on your team.
its because hes black. no not really but i would bet it plays a small part in the situation. the things that everyone mentioned already are probably a much bigger part of why he isnt projected as an nfl qb. however i watched this kid mature as a passer quite a bit over the last 2 years. he is head and shoulders better than he was a couple years ago. i really truely hope this kid gets a shot as a qb in the nfl. i really truely hope he adjiusts well. and i really and truely hope he becomes a great nfl qb. he deserves to do well and think he will.
and if i were the jets i would not spend a 2nd round pick on him. i really do think he will be there later.
draft him if he falls to later rounds, for now, let clemens or ratliff control the offense, lets win with our o-line and defense
Sanchez didn't hurt his stock at all, IMO. He is still the #2 QB in the draft. He still has his pro day, where he will have his recievers. Stafford is not going to be overtaken by Sanchez at this point. He blew the shot with a less then stellar Combine. But Sanchez is NOT going to drop out of the first round, let alone the top 15.
And you know who else looked great at the combines last year? Yeah you got that rite... I won't take that chance again. Combines should be part of the process, not the entire process.
I think the FO is not going to go for ti because it thinks they already have B. Smith as that kind of player. If you hear Tanny at the combine that's what he said (not referring directly to P. White though).
I want to know what Cakes' thoughts on Pat White are. He has watched him more than any of us and I watched most of WVU's games.
