Why would the Jets release him? Does he have zero trade value?

cuz the jets options are 1)cut him. 2) renegotiate before free agency 3)or pay him a roster bonus

they have no leverage in a trade with FA coming.

    OK, figured it out:

His current contract only pays him about an average of 3.5 million per year for the next 4 years. If we could bump him up to 4 million per year for 5 years, and guarantee his bonus money, then we'd have a chance.

edit: I'd say 8 million signing bonus (bump it up 1 mil), then 2 mil per year for 5 years. Throw 2 million more in incentives and voila, 5 years 20 million, with 8 guaranteed (this is negotiable).

I know the signing bonus can only be spread over 4 years, so that's 2 mil per for the next 4 years. Tanny might get more creative with those monies. Not positive about the uncapped year's ramifications on amortization of signing bonus monies though. Also...brain fart...be back later.

If that report is true, (which it likely is) then yay for the cap room but WTF on talent. I think it was surely worth paying him. Now we are going to need an additional player? Great. We better really sign someone great to make up for this.

I agree with others, I really hope they rework this contract. This will be a huge blow to the o-line. Not good news @ all IMO.

why not raise his bonus by 2million but have it come next year when there is no cap that would make him happy and save us the 7 mil against the cap.... is that possible

No. It can be spread out across multiple years, but not moved to a future year. It's also uncertain whether there will be a cap next season. Always a chance that a new CBA is struck, although unlikely.

BM's numbers look good. I just don't understand people willing to quickly cut someone off the OL. That's by far the place on the field where you want the lowest turnover.

If they do cut him they better use that money wisely. I want us to be right at the cap with the best team possible.

What are we rebuilding? We lost ONE starter and three backups -- saving a ton of money in the process.

Hopefully some of this money will be used to lock-up Leon Washington. The rest can go linebackers, some defensive linemen and another guard.

Remember we also have the draft to find quality players.

yeah I messed up on that one

my issue is that Rex Ryan said he wants to be a run first team...Brandon Moore is pretty good from what I remember. I just dont see what the flaw is

I understand the Bowens (surprised though), Kessel cuts. I could even understand the Baker cut but I just think that the move could have been avoided. But I need to see the details before I make a final verdict

Apparently, the flaw was the 7 million dollar bonus he was getting.

just thinking out loud...maybe they want to move out woody to his more natural position inside and look at a deep draft of tackles...doing this while saving 7mill to bring out a top FA defensive player

Its not out of the realm of possibilty that we end up going OT or OG in the first or second if Moore is let go. Still a lot of time with FA comming up to fix these things before the draft though.

Just saw on ESPN News ticker "NY Jets will release OG B. Moore - Newark Star Ledger". I hope Rex Ryan has a good plan in place. I'll see what happens before I get upset
