I was on my way to work and heard on either WFAN or 1050 ESPN, I switch back and forth sorry. That the Jets were considering signing Ryan Fitzpatrick of the Bengals..Ok he won 3 games for the Bungles but, I don't think we need 4 unproven QB's on the roster.. I honestly though there was a punchline coming after the report, but it never came... Fourth-year pro saw by far his most game action, starting 12 games as replacement for injured Carson Palmer ... Led club to 4-3-1 record in season?s second half, including 3-1-1 at home ... Led five TD drives of more than 80 yards over the final eight games ... Season passer rating of 70.0, completing 221 of 372 (59.4 percent) for 1905 yards, with eight TDs and nine INTs ... Was team?s second-leading rusher, with 304 yards on 60 carries (5.1) ... Tied for team lead in rushing TDs (two). 2008 PARTICIPATION: Started Games 4 and 6-16 ... Also played in Game 2 (no statistics), and was active-DNP for Games 1, 3 and 5. COLLEGE: Named Ivy League Player of the Year in 2004, and finished his Harvard career ranked second in school history in completions, TD passes, passing yards and completion percentage ... Harvard passing numbers were 386-for-641 (59.9 percent) with 39 TDs ... Also rushed 365 times for 1487 yards (4.1-yard average) with 16 TDs. PERSONAL: Hometown is Gilbert, Ariz. ... Earned second-team Class 5A all-state honors as senior QB at Highland High School, setting 12 school records ... Married (wife Liza), with one child (Brady) ... Favorite hobbies are golf and woodworking ... Graduated from Harvard with degree in economics.
if there's any truth to this....i'll puke. But since this is the part of the offseason where "lying" is predominant.....I'll hold the upchuck till something concrete happens.
Seriously, Tannenbaum knows he is holding onto his job by a bare thread, I doubt he'd make this dumb a move.
Well if we're looking for a veteran QB, he has to be a name to consider. I wouldn't be opposed to bringing him in... It's not like it would be a major cap-eating move.
Well, add another name to the scrap pile. I just hope all of this is going on without Schottenheimer's input. If he's actively seeking out other teams' castoffs, especially Fitzpatrick, he must have less than zero faith in the QBs we have.
Given the lack of statement out of the FO as to who the Qb is, we can expect plenty of these unsubstantiated rumors and speculations.
The job is gonna be his for as long as he wants it to be. He's done a knockout job so far. With all the cap bullshit he's done a great job. He gets us players we can use, and that fit. Tanny has built us the best team i've seen in a long long time. He'll continue to effectively do his job. However i would 100% be like WTF???? if Ryan Fitzpatrick end up in the green and white.
If Fitzpatrick is going to play our defense very week, then he should be able to post some incredible numbers. Otherwise, I'll have to pass. Seriously, though, all it says is they are looking at him. They should explore all possibilities.
COMPETITION. If we sign him, he'd give us a QB that's been in the league for a couple of years. He also has game experience - unlike Ratliff. An experienced backup QB is important. He's a Harvard grad - as smart as they come at the positition. Only throwing 9 picks on a team that bad is pretty damn good. I'd rather have Byron Leftwich, but Fitzpatrick would be extremely cheap.
OMFG, first there was all this Losman talk, now Fitzpatrick? Jesus Christ what next? Wanna start Jared Lorenzen talk?
Fitz will come pretty cheap and give Clemens/Ratliff some veteran competition. I doubt they would want him to win the job, but he isn't that terrible and he's smart. I'd rather pick up him than Losman or Anderson.
