Version 1.0. 2/16/09. Round 1 (17): Knowshon Moreno RB Georgia RB is far from our greatest need at this point, but if Moreno falls to us at 17, he is simply too good to pass up as Thomas Jones isn't getting any younger. Round 2 (52): Darius Butler CB Connecticut A solid corner to compliment Revis and just what the doctor ordered to cure our ailing secondary. Has tremendous recovery speed and can be put out on an island in man-to-man coverage. Round 3 (76): Ron Brace DT Boston College While he is a dominating force when he is on the field, Kris Jenkins showed last year he is not an every down NT having to come out for a blow after just 2 or 3 plays. Platooning Brace and Jenkins will result in a fresh NT on virtually every snap and will be lethal. Also would enable us to effectively switch to a 4-3 in certain situations. Round 4 (111): Michael Hamlin S Clemson At 6'3, he would be a big presence in the secondary opposite Rhodes. Flys to the ball and is capable of delivering a wallop. The next John Lynch? Round 4 (114): Tyrone McKenzie OLB South Florida One of the most under-rated LB's in the nation and we are in desperate need of fresh legs at OLB. No way around it. Especially if Rex moves Gholston back to his natural position of DE which I have a feeling is ultimately what is going to happen. Round 5 (145): Cedric Dockery OG Texas Will Brandon Moore walk this offseason if he doesn't agree to a restructuring of his contract? Round 6 (180): BPA Round 7 (211): BPA No sense in going after a WR because with Favre having walked we won't have a QB that will be able to throw the ball worth a damn and I don't think it is worth giving Stafford or Sanchez a look this year with the class of QB's that is slated for the 2010 draft. *Note, the last few mock drafts I've seen on here only have the Jets with one 4th round selection. We have 2. The Redskin's 4th from the Kendall trade and our own 4th.*
liked your 2nd and 3rd round picks. but the rest were garbage and Clemens has a gun and so does Ratliff. Ratliff was undrafted out of Utah, and did spectacular against JV defensive units in the preseason. Clemens almost won games under center when his entire O-Line consisted of only Nick Mangold. Put Clemens under center now, and with a better complement of receivers, and better coaches, its a WRAP. Think of this formation, Cotchery and Coles split out, Keller/Stuckey in the slot and/or Baker lined up at TE. Most underrated receiving corps. Coles has dropped off considerably to be honest, but Cotchery still has it. Stuckey is a football player, Keller is possibly the best tight end prospect to come out in years, and Baker is sadly unappreciated for the hands that he possesses and his blocking capability. Our first pick should be BAP defensively, like an ILB or DB. If not than the offensive player we should go after should be a wideout, not runningback.
We have one 4th round pick, ours goes to NO as part of the Vilma trade. If any GM decided not to pick a WR because we don't have a QB that can throw the ball worth a damn will be fired immediately. The best way to ensure success for a young QB is giving him some quality weapons. We have to get a WR somewhere in this draft. Also don't like your reasoning for ignoring the QBs in this draft, Sanchez would be the first QB selected next year. If we can get him at 17 or even move up a little for him we have do do it.
IMHO RB is the least valuable position of a team. Take a look at The Broncos history. Their running game has been just fine switching backs year after year. Take a look at NE last year. They had Jarvis Green running most of the year! He's a nobody. However behind a good o-line the running game did well! Teams can find RB gems in drafts so much easier than other positions and I just quite frankly don't see the point in drafting a RB in the first round EVER. The only guy I can think of and say it was truly worth it was Adrian Peterson. ( I realize I'm missing a few other people but you guys get my drift I hope.) With that being said, I love the rest of your draft.
1 - I don't want to go running back, even with LeSean McCoy being one of my favorite backs in recent years. We other too many other important holes - especially in the secondary and at inside 'backer. 2 - Darius Butler is a solid corner - better corner than former teammate Tyvon Branch. 3 - Brace benefitted from Raji - taking this high might not be the right move. 4 - Hamlin is a terrible cover safety due to lack of speed and agility. He's solid against the run...but that's about it. I don't get the John Lynch comparison - Lynch is a pile-jumper. 4 again - this pick doesn't exist - McKenzie lacks the size and strength to play in a NFL 3-4. He'd be a solid pick for a Cover 2 4-3 team - he has a ton of athleticism. Not a good fit for the Jets. 5 - Cedric Dockery might be gone before the fifth...he's mediocre in pass-pro, and solid in run blocking. He'd be a decent depth pick. 6 and 7 - How hard is it to find two more prospects? (I like the Butler pick, and Ron Brace would be very helpful in our rotation, but this draft has some serious question marks and only fills about 1 and 1/2 holes)
You obviously know nothing about football, just like half of the clowns that post on this wall. Gholston could never play de in the 3-4. Im not gonna explain it because ive done it so many times already. check out wikipedia if you must
Awww come on , there are a ton of 260ish pund 3-4 DE's running around in the leage. Tons. Right? Maybe? Oops, guess not.
i really think his 4-6 is gonna be a hybrid 4-6 basically just a 3-4 with 8 guys in the box but thats def a possibility never really thought bout that. too be honest i think havin gholston learn the 3-4 and 4-6 is going to make his brain explode
ryan will Keep It Likable and Learnable.... K.I.L.L. It won't be this read and react shit... it'll be go and kill him kind of stuff. But Gholston has to work his ass off on technique.
how is RB by far our biggest need? AND there's no sense in getting a good WR in this years draft? I'm glad detroit didn't use that theory when they drafted Calvin Johnson who put up huge numbers. This is another horrible mock draft. You don't even know our own draft picks, try again. The only pick I actually like is Ron Brace, but that is even uncertain until the combine because he has the dominant BJ Raji on the same dominant line, so who knows how dominant brace can be by himself. But wow, no sense in getting an amazing receiver receiver in this years draft, thats just a bold statement.
Try to improve your reading comprehension before bashing a mock. I disagree about the WR comment by the OP. There is an outside chance that a good WR could fall to us in the second. I don't see us trying to take one in the first though. Still too many holes in the D that could be upgraded first. That said, there is not a single guy in this draft that even comes close to Calvin Johnson, so using him as your example is a very bad Idea. Johnson had every tool possible and even Crabtree has some very glaring weaknesses. There is not a sure fire All pro caliber talent at WR this year, let alone where we pick at 17. Not saying so of the more raw guys could not get there, but its not as if we are going to have a shot at the top WR in the draft ala Johnson.
Just because he makes one questionable post that doesn't match your opinion doesn't mean he obviously knows NOTHING about football...
First, I misread it. Reading comprehension means you read something, and can't retain the information or simply forget it. It was a simple misread. I think there are a lot of receivers in this years draft that have the same tools as Calvin Johnson. I am not saying as GOOD as johnson, but his point was that you shouldn't draft a wide receiver if you have no quarterback, which Johnson did not have one, but is still a great player. Nicks, Britt, Maclin, Robiskie (2nd rounder), Derrick Williams (2nd Rounder) are all guys that I think would help any football team and have a similar playing style to C. Johnson. My point, was that you can't just not grab good talent at the receiver position just because you don't have a quarterback, because those wide receivers develop and can become players that can help any quarterback win in the future.
1. its not questionable, it purely doesnt make sense 2. its not my opinion, its how a 3-4 is run Clearly he might know something about football. But think or research your replies before you post them.
Great mock. I'm warming up to the idea of Knowshon Moreno in the 1st. If Sanchez, Mauluaga, and Malcolm Jenkins are all gone, we should go RB. I don't think there are any WR worth being taken at 17 and that's our other big need. I really think we'll sign a LB (Bart Scott) so that's not the pick. Darius Butler is a great pick in the 2nd round. Either he, Mickens, or Macho all work there. Butler is very good in man-to-man and that's what we need. Brace makes almost too much sense in the 3rd. We need NT depth and a 3rd round pick makes a lot of sense there. I like Hamlin and he is a nice pick there. McKenzie is ok, although I'd rather go Mitch King there. Very good mock overall.
Actually comprehension is the capacity of the mind to perceive and understand. It has nothing to do with memory. Seeing as you completely missed the meaning of the statement made I assumed you did not comprehend it. Again, I never argued that the OP was right in not drafting a WR because our QB situation. I actually said I did not agree with his point, but there goes your reading comprehension again. As for there being a lot of receivers that have the tools of Calvin Johnson? Really? Theres a 6'5" 235 pound receiver with good route running, 4.33 speed, and great hands out there? Name me one please. Every single guy out this year may have some of those qualitys but is lacking in one area or another. Crabtree has only decent hands and is expected to time in the 4.5 range Britt has similar problems to him DHB is seen as soft over the middle, though he has good speed for a guy his height. Maclin, Harvin, Williams and Nicks are no where near 6-5. Not a single one of these guys can be compaired to Calvin Johnson at this point.
