Owners had a pretty good idea at the time that "juicing" was going on. They made money from it. Nobody going after them. A-Rod did it, fessed up and is now a public whipping boy. He is getting what he deserved. Guys in all sports have been involved in this crap in some shape or form. All that can be done is to develop testing that can detect the drugs and fine the individuals heavily in an attempt to deter them from trying.
What do you expect him to say? "I'm a cheater and all my accomplishments are purely a result of steroid use"? I'm pretty sure he'll leave that to Mets and Red Sox fans... He did all he could to try and save face in this situation, and that's exactly what any of you would have done.... have fun beating a dead horse now.
I think Cashman summed it up pretty well yesterday.... "I don't think Alex is very good at communicating, to be quite honest." Now somebody needs to tell Alex that because the more he talks about this the worse it sounds... cousins? college? youth? tic-tacs? mysterious injections? That's "man'ing up"??? What a joke!! Even his teamates needed to stay 100 feet away from that mess... and let's face it here folks, if the SI story doesn't come out, he's still denying everything. There's a big difference between admitting something and getting caught. I understand people are tired of talking about this... I mean a show like this appears to be a right of spring in Tampa nowadays, but that doesn't mean we need to accept it, or even applaud it as "man'ing up" as some here seem willing to do. The guy lied in the past and he's doing it again now. Jim Baumbach get's it too. http://www.newsday.com/sports/ny-spjim0218,0,1144756.column
We applaud you for keeping everyone honest regarding the truth-telling or lack thereof in the world of professional sports. It must be a heavy burden to bear, but I am sure that it is worth the effort, when the burden is the noble banner of truth and justice. But it's probably just schadenfreude.
In a situation like this where there is bad news about you that could come out. Do you think the cheating players should come out before being outed? I don't think they would get any better treatment (from the media or fans) and there is still a chance they won't get outed so it makes sense for them to stay quiet. In terms of Andy, I respect Andy because of all of his rep going back 10+ years. I hate the yankees but respect several of their players because those players carry themselves in the right way. That, he has cheated does not mean he looses all respect, do I respect him less? yes I do, but I think we all make mistakes and deserve at least a second chance. In terms of being illeagal, They should be brought to a fair trial when they break the law just like we do. I think Bonds and Dirty Roger will be great examples of that.
Fuck Rodriguez. See my post in the Yankee thread for my feelings. Again, Fuck him. Cheating lying piece of crap.
Part of that attention is just because he is "the best player in baseball". If he was in Texas he would get more attention than most because of his paycheck and his status. Being a Yankee and in NY does multiple the effect but it is not the only reason for all the extra attention.
so how did arods name get leaked again? and whoever leaked it is facing lawsuits or jailtime i assume?
Ortiz is fat. Steroids don't add fat asses to players. Not to say he may not have used, but if you are going to use the argument he is bigger now then before, it's more likely because he ate too many cannolis and not enough granolas.
Nah, dude. I mean, yeah, he's got a belly. But I worked several events with him in 2004-2005. (The best was the celebrity bartending event in Worcester. Ortiz got plastered. He's a genuinely nice guy, too, which was refreshing in that line of work.) But it's not just fat. The dude's forearms are practically twice as big as they are in that Twins picture. Never mind the piles of additional circumstantial evidence. Honestly, the sooner everyone accepts the likelihood that many/most of their favorite athletes did something to get an edge... the sooner people realize that professional athletes are some of the last people you want acting as role models for children... the better off we will all be.
Arods name was leaked to Selena Roberts by someone. It isn't likely that she will reveal her source, but if she did I'd assume that person would be open to being sued for leaking confidential info and/or sealed court records.
Oh I don't by any means think the Red Sox are/were all clean as a whistle. It's just not possible. I just think people pointing out names because they are bigger is rediculous. Ortiz is mainly a fat fat latino. He very well could have been using more then AHOLE, but no one knows.
My point was more that he's not really fat. He's got a belly, but is ripped, otherwise. No joke. This ain't John Kruk or Cecil Fielder we're talking about here.
I'm not cool enough to invoke the all knowing "we" when I post... so you'll have to forgive me for that, but I do know I don't like being lied to repeatedly whether it's A-rod or my next door neighbor. Maybe you (and your army) prefer to swallow what A-Rod's dishing out without questioning it's integrity and honesty, and that's your prerogative... but likewise it's my prerogative to question a guy when he calls a presser and spews contrived lies and deflects blame while he pats himself on the back for doing it. Schadenfreude eh? How do you say rationalize in German?
I never said I believed him. I just can't bring myself to care that much about professional athletes beyond what they do on the field. I find all this faux self-righteousness nearly as dishonest as anything A-Rod (or any other ballplayer) did. As for integrity and honesty, my default position is that professional athletes, as a rule, don't subscribe to either virtue. So I just hope they perform well when they're wearing the uniform of the team I root for and I pretty much leave it at that. And what, exactly, am I rationalizing here? I don't think A-Rod was telling the truth necessarily. I just think it's amusing that integrity and honesty just became a whooooooole lot more important to people who are not fans of A-Rod or the Yankees. For me, nothing has changed. A-Rod is an idiot who is very good at baseball. He plays for my team, so I hope he does well. Beyond that, fuck him. And I'd say that for just about any player.
what A-rod did he took the easy way out. He should have spilled the beans on what he was doing and who gave it to him and where did he get it from. If he didn't know what he was on why would he keep using whatever 36 times
Or he could have said he did it once like Andy Pettite and then reveal a few days latter he lied. Don't get me wrong I am a Pettite and a Yankee fan fan, but I think it is utterly ridiculous to anoint Andy as the media friendly nice guy patron saint of steroid admission.
So Arod was caught in lie #1........ apparently the drug he said his cousin got in the Domican Republic over the counter isn't available in pharmacies in the Dominican Republic. This is according to ESPN, Arod is going to learn very quick that if he wasn't 100% honest people are going to try to destroy him. It's sad but it's a reality.
