To sum up what he says the Jets believe that of the current QBs on their roster Ratliff gives them the best hope for the future, but that he may be too green now. According to him the Jets will only use Clemens if they are stuck with him. He also says the Jets don't feel great about any of the QBs in FA or the trade market. He says if the Jets see a QB they like at 17 they will definitely go for him.

If this is indeed the Jets view, they have it nailed. This is exactly how I feel they should approach the QB situation. See what's in the draft, see what Ratliff has, and if it looks like you're stuck with Clemens explore FA or the trade route. Good take.

This team is a great place for a young QB to settle into... Veteran OL, trusty WR with good hands, a TE to build chemistry with and a running game you can rely on to take plenty of pressure off of you.

Not to mention a defense that will now be able to beat the shit out of you... this team was 2nd in sacks to the World Champion Steelers through 11 weeks before Mangini pussified the D... expect Ryan to keep the pressure on and even more than we've ever seen.

The next era of QB for this team can be matured well. Its going to take patience, which 98% of this board doesn't have.

Draft a QB, play Clemens or Ratliff. Best case scenario, one emerges as a viable starter until the new kid is ready to go.... If you end up having a QB controversy with the 1st round pick but Clemens/Ratliff is a great starter- then that is good too. The starter goes down, the new kid can continue where he left off. These are good situations to be in.

Agree with that LTJF, Ratliff has potential, but if there is a guy at 17 then lets take him, we have a strong line, the QB will stay on his feet and have time to learn. Hopefully this is the way the Jets are looking at this scenario.

According to Glazer it is, which would be great news if true.

I agree, also. No panic moves this time. It's time to see what we have in Clemens, and Ratliff showed he is worth a look, also. Sign a veteran who is cost effective, and let the year play itself out.

I wonder how many more times people here will have to hear this before they finally understand that Clemens is not the guy. Everyday somebody else leaks what the Jets' thinking is and like I've said before this is not new. This has been whispered about ever since the end of '07. Why else would they have traded for Favre last year? People really have to start thinking with their brains and not their hearts.

I was listening to Simms on Showtime and he mentioned that the Jets will probably take a strong look at the draft to get themselves a QB with that 17th pick.
I like the idea myself. The teams that are consistently in the playoffs have good QB play.
Except for Brady and Warner, they also were drafted in the first rd.

This is so true too. This new offensive line that they say Clemens will now have, he had last season. He had this line during mini-camps and the first weeks of training camp. It was obvious that Clemens did not have it. He didn't beat out Chad, and we knew that Chad was not the answer.

They made the move for Favre because they were perhaps hoping he would provide some juice in a vanilla offensive unit.

I have said that multiple times Mangini every year said there would be a QB competition in camp he never said Chad was the starter. All three years Kellen could not beat him out what makes guys think now all of a sudden he is going to be good ?

Trade for Favre, one to sell PSL's and two because he is a sure fire Hall Of Famer.

Just for the record, i don't think Clemens will win the battle anyway, Ratliff seems to be high in everyone's opinions in Jets management. They can't just hand it to him though.

If we go in with the QB's we have, Ratliff will come out the starter.

Agreed. Thats what the Jets need to do.

The only thing I would do if I were the Jets would be to make sure that no matter what I have a veteran QB on this roster. Just not a really old one. Just somebody with more experience then Clemens.

Yeah, a veteran QB at a reasonable price as insurance makes a lot of sense,
