If we're working to get under the cap I don't think it's silly at all. He'd save us over $2 million if we cut or traded him and I honestly don't think he'd be difficult to replace. Who was the TE we had in preseason last year? He could do the job.

I'd be happy if they brought back Jason Pociask as a cheap #2. We could get him for the vet minimum and he looked good last preseason.

Then get some late rounder or UDFA for #3. Some kid who can block well.

    That should be enough.

I think he is worth a 3 but I don't think the market will yield that. He will go on to do good things somewhere else.

I dont wanna trade Baker. He is the most complete Tight End we have on this team.

I love Keller but his blocking isnt that good. He is a great receiving threat who will cause a lot of mismatches.

Baker on the other hand can block and has good hands.

You like him enough as the #2 TE to pay him 2 million dollars plus this year ?

Uhm, if the market won't yield that, then by definition he ain't worth that.

Baker ain't worth the 2.3+ million he's due. Get rid of him for anything we can get.

why are people so down on Baker? He is a damn good TE. Decent speed, very good hands, good blocker. He is by far the most complete TE on the Jets; trade/cut him and watch the running game go down, as well as the passing game.

I like him as the starting tight end with Keller rotating in and running plays as a tight end and in the slot.

Chris Baker is arguably the top TE in the NFL. He can block catch a pass and when he is on, look out.

If this coaching staff........... I mean the last 2 coaching staffs.......... I mean any coaching staff that has ever coached him.............. knew how to use him, this beast would be All-Pro. Lets get a 1st or 2nd for him, screw a 3rd or 4th. Why give him away?

I mean Rex is probably going to make Baker into the 100 catch, blocking beast everyone here knows Baker is..................

However, don't stop there, we should trade the following too:

    Barton for a 3rd.
    Thomas for a 2nd.
    Nugent for a 3rd
    Coles for a 2nd

Trade all the Jets old mediocre players for high draft picks........ getturdone Tannenbaum.

Gholston is now worth 2 1st round picks, and a 4th three years after the trade.

That's an interesting idea - having Keller play a mix of H-Back, slot, big WR and double TE. But Schotty would have to want 2 TE on the field most of the time. And I don't remember him doing much of that last year.

Don't get me wrong, Baker can play. He has good hands and blocks well in the running game. The team would be better with both him and Keller on the field a lot. But our base offense would have to be designed with that in mind.
