The one good thing out of all of this is that both Clemens and Ratliff got to watch a true professional. If they gained nothing more, I'd want them to have garnered the fact that a QB "has the right" to improvise on the run, to deviate from the game plan if need be and to let themselves go in the face of changing situations. Penny was always "in the groove" and almost mathimatical in his checkdowns, to the point where, if he ran out of options, he really ran out of freakin' options. Favre was willing to look outside the box. "Okay, this was the play, but it's broken. I'll be damned if I'm gonna Checkdown. Fuck this... I'll run to my left and underarm it to Leon and watch him screw them." That's the kind of lesson I want Clemens and Ratliff to have learned. And if either one of them haven't learned that, then we're destined to have lost all the good things Favre brought here. If not, maybe one of the two or them (or even Ainge.. the 3 of them) might have been the fortunate recipient of Favre's legacy.
I'm glad that Brettt came to us and I'm also glad he retired with us. Nice guy , legend. Good luck to the man , hes deserved his break. Clemens 6' 2" ????Really , I thought he was just about 6'. He needs to stand next to smaller people more often.
It should be a good preseason with these 2 guys and whatever veteran they bring in. I am really pulling for Clemens to do well. If he just gets his decision makes skills better, we will be in good shape. Let's hope this past season with Favre helped him along.
I think we see a different Kellen Clemens this Training Camp....i believe if he goes in knowing he's the "guy", he can concentrate on being the starting QB instead of looking over his shoulder 24/7....and worrying about screwing up in front of "perfectionist Mangini".
this is what i mean, don't draft a QB early, give the kids a chance with a decent supporting cast ( really o-line), draft a WR to help him out or ... vontae davis love
I Dont know if he has the heart to play QB in this crazy ass league. Although i would still give him one more shot with this new o-line.
It just might be in the long run that one of the best things about Favre coming here might be that his style off the field, around his teammates, his attitude toward the game, might have rubbed off on Clemens. (Now there's a rosy off season type sentiment.)
I'm going to take exception to that statement, on behalf of Chad Pennington. I do agree with you in part though... he got to watch a different way of doing things. I hope Clemens benefits from his experiences with both guys. The cerebral part of the game is very important, especially in how you study and prepare for an opponent. Chad is among the best at that aspect. On the field it is also important not to overthink things, which will never be an issue you can accuse Favre of. If this kid can't get it done now with the time and experience he's had it's gonna be time to start looking for the next guy all over again.
The only "go time" for Kellen Clemens is the time it takes him to go out the door. He will not be a Jet this season. At best, he is an Arena QB. Does the New York Knights still exist?
There was a picture taken with him standing next to Favre and he was the same height. Favre isn't a really tall guy either.
for the love of god...give Clemens a chance!!.....the guy has not had his shot......if Tanny goes after bulger or someother wash up we are stuck in this HELL forever! I see no reason to upgrade QB postion this year..give these young guns a shot
All off season optimism momentarily aside, this is still a GM and owner who thought it was okay to let Kendall go and be replaced by Clarke and Bender.
