After watching him this season I think he made the right decision, he just looked tired the last several games. I will always respect and hope the best for him. I can see how the last few years could have tarnished his rep but we all have times in our lives where we do not handle everything perfectly and so I choose to remember him as the great player he was and not the player he ended up being for us.
That page confuses me. Estimated NFL Salary Cap Limit: $123,000,000 Jets Adjusted Cap: $124,500,000 Current Estimated Amount Over Salary Cap: $11,537,840 Unless I'm missing something, that doesn't seem to add up. EDIT: Just saw this at the bottom: Total: $132,811,761 So what does the $124,500,000 represent?
The release of Barrett leaves the Jets roughly $4 million under the projected 2009 salary cap of $124 million, according to NFLPA cap figures. If quarterback Brett Favre retires or is released, the club will save another $13 million on the cap. That would leave the Jets with at least $17 million heading into the start of free agency on Feb. 27. The club is expected to make other moves to free up more cap space before free agency begins.
Maybe right now and forever more we can stop hearing anymore bullshit about Clemens ever being the Jets QB again. "The team is unconvinced that Kellen Clemens, a former second-rounder, is capable of being Favre's replacement. " http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3898942
Did you ever hear the saying be careful what you wish for ? Well next year with the worst pass D in the game + a bad D & now no QB get ready for 4 & 12. Next year I will come back & remind you guys when we have a top 5 pick.
Let me be the first to recommend that someone starts a new Favre thread. You just know it's coming: "FAVRE SAYS HE DOESN'T WANT TO RETIRE!"
1 million after you deduct Favre's 13. Actually 1.5 to be more accurate. http://www.nyjetscap.com/salary.html
Yea I watched every single game. he beat down the Cardinals, rocked the undefeated Titans at their house, owned the Patriots in overtime in their house, and gave our team a chance to win every single game. I guess we should blame Favre for our crap defense and horrible WRs for the entire year. Oh yeah and don't forget to blame him for Mangini's idiotic decision-making for the last 3 years. Get a grip people.
With everything that has gone on, I'm as happy as anyone of this news. Need to say cheers for Favre though, did he play well down the stretch? No, but he got us into that position. He said all the right things, i think it's pretty evident he has no regrets, he didn't string us along, he has informed us in plenty of time. Stand up guy in my mind, happy that he was a Jet, happy retirement. Now we can really move forward, no lets look at the future.
hard to believe that with Favre leaving things will mysteriously just get better, but i will wait to see how the season ends.
H'mm wonder who the other side will fear the most to hurt them KC Ratliff Ainge I really doubt any of them makes the other sides shake in there shoes
The Star Ledger seems to be reporting very different numbers than that cap page. Which one is accurate? Is either accurate? The Ledger's numbers seem to be a lot more favorable.
