Bodden and 5 others were cut by the Lions today. They signed him for a lot but he didn't produce this season the way he had in his last season with the Browns. I don't think he'd come cheap, but he would be affordable and would be a better signing than a guy like Ray Lewis. We're not going to get another Revis unless we make a lucky draft pick. A guy like Bodden can hold down the other side and if we find ourselves a 3rd DB and make Lowery a safety, our secondary could be complete. Slot WRs killed Lowery, so unless he trains with Usain Bolt this offseason, I don't see him playing much more CB. I hope the Jets take a look at Bodden. If getting him wouldn't break the bank, it's be a good signing.
I have concerns about Bodden. Why was Cleveland willing to trade him away in the first place and why did detroit give up on him after only a season? Is it circumstances or is there a "below the surface" issue ?
i thought it had something to do with the original deal for shaun rogers falling through...and bodden being the chip that sealed the deal to get rogers....no shame there and detroit is giving up on his 8.6 cap # which they overpaid to give him...t i've read a few things...and there was even another thread on bodden, but i'd imagine he is looking for a middle of the line deal with a chance to prove himself on a good team either way...i'd look for our team to add 2-3 cbs and 2 safeties at some point this offseason
Bodden was compesnation for Rogers. He just didn't fit in the Tampa 2 zone scheme, he is a man coverage corner. We need man coverage CBs.
But new Lions HC Jim Schwartz is a Belicheck/Fisher disciple. He will utilize cover corners and the cover two is a thing of the past in Detroit. They dumped Bodden awfully fast, there must be a reason why. maybe it is just a hefty base salary.
thats exactly what it is...it was in the article when his release was announced...his 6 million dollar bonus and 8.6 cap number was out of their range and they wanted to use it elsewhere to have an aggressive free agency period he wasn't upset b/c they didn't exactly treat him in the highest regard/went 0-16 good move by both sides you can easily find articles about this...it was actually a 8.6 million bonus
why renegotiate with an 0-16 team that lined you up for an 8.6 million bonus and then made you earn your job in training camp against crap like travis fisher and the rest of the garbage lions secondary the ball is completely in his field and he can make a clean and fresh start with a new team...and better team
I'm not sure he would have but it would have been Detroit who would try before cutting him if they had cared at all about keeping him.
Good point. Regardless I'd like to take a look, he was notoriously highly thought of in Cleveland, and was the main piece going the other way in the Rogers deal (pretty sure).
Well I am not sure what kind of money he'd demand from us. We can't go doing what we did last offseason, and another corner is just one piece of the puzzle, so if it's a relatively good deal, we should make a run at the guy.
