P Shane Lechler I don't think the Jets have had a real punter since Chuck Ramsey. Lechler is a no brainer. And he's cheap. There ya go. Finally an FA signing that would make sense. :metal:
I never overlook ST, but I believe the Raiders will have him locked up. We do need a much better kicking game all around.
Perhaps not #1, but at the right price Lechler would be a huge addition for us. How often have we been hamstrung by poor field position on account of an inconsistent (or consistently bad) punter? It would be nice not to have to worry about that.
Man, that guy is an amazing punter. In Hawaii he kicked one from the back of the EZ that came down at the NFC's 30 yard line.
Personally it doesnt have to be lechler, I just want a punter who will kick the ball 43+ yards on average while holding a 37+ net for the year. don't care who it is, but I just want to win some field position.
The dysfunction of the Oakland Raiders organization seemingly knows no bounds. From SFGate.com, via ProFootballTalk.com: Franchise-tag season opened Thursday and the Raiders must choose between locking in Pro Bowl punter Shane Lechler or Pro Bowl cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. If they don't tag Lechler, and it appears they won't, it could be very difficult to re-sign him - especially in light of a face-bruising assault near the end of last season. Lechler was punched in the face by teammate Terdell Sands during an argument on the team flight home from Denver on Nov. 23, according to five sources -- two former assistant coaches, a front-office member, a team administrator and an AFC head coach from outside the organization. Sands was neither suspended nor fined by the team, according to multiple sources familiar with the situation. Consider this all the more reason for Lechler to leave Oakland if he becomes an unrestricted free agent, two of those sources said on the condition of anonymity.
Holy crap... you let teammates punch your best player in the face... no fine or suspension?? He must play for the Raiders... oh, yeah, he does. Nevermind.
ha ha terd-ell perfect name for a raider.... Sorry couldnt resist As for Lechler he would be a good pickup, but the question is how many teams would be in the market for a guy like him. His price could go up simply because of demand. Its no secret this guy is one of the top three punters in the league if not #1.
Actually, no sarcasm whatsoever. The Jets already have two kickers and a punter. Cut a kicker and the punter, throw in some extra bucks and get him. He's the best punter in the game.
If your best player on an NFL team is your punter then I would imagine youare one of a pretty ornery group. Lechler would be a fine addition to just about any team. With limited cap space, is the punter your main concern though? I would personally prefer a full time safety along side Rhodes. A second MLB is a priority as well.
wow, in that case he may not be locked up... I'd make a run at him. The Jets need a guy who can pin an offense back inside its own 10.... he'd do wonders on a decent to great team... he can do anything when the team he plays for now blows balls.
