Offensively , it has to be the QB whoever that might be. If Brett stays, he plays. Should he go , then one from 3 will get the nod , Ratty , Clemens or Ainge. Maybe a road vet like Garcia may come in...but impact wise , I don't see much Ryan influence going that way. On defense though , someone who impressed me alot towards the end of the season was Jason Trusnik . Fast, aggressive and reads the game well. With a decent D coach this guy could turn out to be a real steal for us. I'm sure most people will say Gholston , but I'm not so sure. I still stand by the fact that he was so unmotivated in his inaugral season , whatelse will it take to light a fire under him ? Next Season , Trusnik will be the man.
I will second that on Trusnik. He was no dominate force or anything but he seemed better to me than some of our starting guys. I really have hopes for him. Good point gustoon.
that is very much the case in my eyes, many guys will benefit, but Rhodes will be easily the most improved.
If ray ray somehow is a jet I see that as a motivation for gholston but I can see leon Washington benefiting the most because I can see him getting alot more touches.
A coach can teach technique. He can't teach desire and ability. The people who will benefit most are those that already have the ability and desire.
Herm , crap coach , great motivator. In Rex I think we have a great motivator and someone who knows Xs and Os
I would say Gholston just because Ryan has already singled him out as the one player who possibly stands the most to improve. This is going to put a lot of pressure on him. My prediction is he'll either flourish under Ryan or be proved a bust, but whichever, it'll take place sooner because Ryan has his eye on this kid and will push him unmercifully to live up to his supposed "potential."
Revis, Rhodes and Lowery should all benefit from this style of defense. I can't even imagine how good Revis can be in a defense where he doesn't have to cover for that long.
Why not Gholston.. out of all the people on the team that has the most room for improvement it is this kid. He still has all the physical skills he has coming to the team he just needs the right motivation and the right coaching.. he needs to work on his hand moves and needs to be put in a role to get to the quaterback..also I agree with the Kerry Rhodes comment.. I thought he had a disappointing season last year and still has potential to be utilized as a pass rusher and a ball hawk. I was impressed with Trunsnik as well at the end of last season and see him more as a cinderella team but hopes he does emerge with a role on the team. He has the size and has a good ability to locate the ball and get into the play. Next year should be an exciting year to watch our defense.
What has he done to show that he has any physical skills at all? All he did last year was grow his waistline and slow down as the year progressed.
gholston is the biggest and obvious choice. if nobody understands why its either because they dont read what our staff has said or theyve labeled him a certified proven bust, which i have not. time will tell and the time is this season. i think him most, because he has the lowest starting grade. so any improvement will be noticeable. others are Rhodes, Pace(size and athleticism equals matchup problems), and Harris(looked like one of the leagues top 3 MLB's his rookie year.slowed down with some injuries last yr. he was already aggressive under Gumchew so expect the David Harris we knew and loved 2 yrs ago)
One question for the original poster... I'm just curious as to how you think Rex will help a QB? Trusnick looked good in the last game of the season but does anyone recall him doing anything the first 15 games of the season? These are honest questions, not being argumentative. I agree with another poster that Leon will benefit the most since he was IMO the most mis-used guy on the roster last year.
