Hopefully they won't have to cut Brett due to him retiring. But signing Lewis would be a mistake. Rex Ryan clearly has shown he can find LBs to play exceptionally well in his system, so it would be more wise to find a younger LB in the draft.

I'm pretty sure it would be nearly impossible capwise to keep Brett and sign Ray...

I love how these writers make things so simple. Who the hell is trading for Bryan Thomas?

Does Favre really hinder the development of young players? Throwing a QB into the fire is not always the same thing as development. For every Ryan and Flacco, you get guys like David Carr or Joey Harrington. Also look at examples like Brady, Cassel, or Rodgers. Sometimes it is better to just let your young qb's learn the offense and get a feel for the game before sending them out to the lions.

Coles has guaranteed money for 2009. Just goes to show that these writers just flap their gums in the wind.

Substitute Favre's name for Lewis' in this post and this is exactly what was being posted last summer when it was rumored the Jets were making a run at Favre. How did that turn out? This identity and respect thing is ridiculous. You build an indentity and earn respect by developing your own talent and winning, not by buying an over-the-hill player whose old team no longer wants him. Anybody who gets Lewis will overpay. I'm tired of the Jets bringing in overpaid old men looking to recapture past glory that can't be recpatured.

In the salary cap era, every NFL team spends the same amount of money. YOu win by getting more "worth" out of your players than you are paying them. Sinking $25 million into Favre and Lewis will ruin this franchise for years to come. The Jets are better off paying a few million or a few hundred thousand on Clemens and Ratliff and Harris.

Getting Favre was great the results weren't but this is the Jets the results are never that good. At least if we sign Lewis it makes us a two time repeat champs of the off season.

lol, nice. i don't think we will get lewis, scott probably. but if we did get lewis i wouldnt be opposed of it. he is not washed up and he is a lb who can cover, which we desperately need. it's not going to happen regardless if favre returns or not.

Favre is going to retire and there is no way we waste the money it would take to sign Lewis for a couple of years. There is a better chance of signing Suggs than Lewis but I agree it will probably be Scott if it is anybody from the Ravens.

Agree 100%. Besides Lewis is using us to drive up the price with the Ravens. Do you really think the Ravens will let him go and he would leave that team, on the cusp of Super Bowl for the NYJ.

I can't believe you people just don't realize that the Jets will NEVER NEVER NEVER cut Favre. No team ever would. They may hope he doesn't come back but if he does he will be welcomed with open arms and that is why you hear what you hear from Ryan, Johnson and Tannenbaum.

    It WON'T happen.

Yeah, I agree. It doesn't make any sense given the cap and his contract.
