    I never pray about sports.

Maybe, just maybe, that's why the Jets have not won an SB in forty years.

I think there is some minor politicking that has to go on for the Jets. Let me explain. It is written that Favre has to give the Jets an answer on whether he feels like playing at the start of the Combines, which I blieve is Feb. 26th or 27th.

That said, we know we are on the hook for our third round pick to Green Bay based on where we finished the year. But, there is a "be carefull" clause; if Farve decides he still wants to play football, but not for the Jets and the Jets traded him to Minnesota, then we give up our #1 pick this year.

I don't think there is much chance of that happening right now, but I do hope Favre is a professional about this whole thing this year. If he wants to come back; I can deal with it, provided he is willing to go to work starting in March - conditioning, mini-camps, aerobics, working with Shotty, and whatever it takes to be ready for camp this summer.

If he doesn't want to come back then come clean at the start of combines. Don't turn NY into a Peyton Place (the soap opera - no reference to Sweetness).

And definitely, don't put NY in an "I'm in between" position by saying, "I still want to play football, but the time has come for me to play for another team." That would be a horrible place for the NY Jets to be in and the worst of all the scenarios.

Does anyone in their right mind really believe that IF Brett Favre wants to continue playing football, he'd want to learn another new system and develop chemistry with new players...for the second time in two years? There are no Vikings in his future. It's us or bust.
Peter King is single-handedly responsible for floating the Vikings into THIS offseason's equation and the fools are following his continued brand of non-journalistic hypotheses and uneducated guesses. He hates the Jets and loves the Massholes. Period.
Having said that, I still think our best chance to win next year is with Favre.

I don't really see why him wanting to play somewhere else is any worse than him retiring. If he wants to play somewhere else the Jets release him, and he can sign anywhere he wants (including Minnesota) without any penalty to the Jets. He'll also continue to destroy his image both around the league and in Green Bay (particularly if he went to Minnesota or Chicago), which I don't think he would ultimately want to do.

    Your right Green Lantern,

The Man made a huge move (with family in tow) to play for the New York Jets. My guess is he will finish his career here in New York (for better or worse) as another major off season move would probably be too tough at this stage of the game for him and his family. How Brett favre's career ends now will be up to Brett AND the Jets Organization. I pray it ends on a high note for all involved !!!

A huge move? If someone threw money like that at me I would "move" for 5 months, too.

Our best chance to win the lottery is to buy a lottery ticket. We took a chance last year it was fine we had a fun off season and a good 3 months.

Truth is Favre looked like an old man down the stretch and while not the only player who choked he certainly was the one who looked like he was in need of a permanent heimlich manuever in the month of December.

I love having a guy who can throw the ball and make things happen but lets face it Favre choked down the stretch and the whole point of having a gun slinger is that they not only can get it out of the holster but hit the target when their life is on the line.

I'm all for doing something to improve the team through FA, trades or the draft. And I LOVE your western analogies re: Favre - classics! It's just my opinion that Favre is still better than Clemens and/or Ratliff right now, and that he's not going to Minnesota.

Just to clarify: Green Bay offered Brett a 25 million package last off season; he refused and came to play for the Jet's. I think many fans are unaware of this but the significance is it proves:

"Brett did not come to play for the New York Jet's for the Money" He came here to win !!!

I'm ok with either Favre or Clemens. I am not shaded on that, as you are, since there is some benefit to looking beyond right now.

He may well be better than either Clemens or Ratliff will be next season. I just don't believe we have either a great D or a great O that can carry this team very far with a new HC. It might just be better for the team to clear the cap space and move on.

Winston again with the consistent line on moving on. I think I am not totally on board there for two reasons. One is while I think all signals are consonant with Schott telling Ryan that Clemens (or Ratliff, but probably Clemens) CAN start for the team, we really don't know that. Yet. Watch Favre leave and they announce a Qb competition. Heh! That would be awful, but as Jet fans we cannot rule it out!

Second is, and this is where I am moving in his direction - IF the Jets get Favre back in somewhat better form, better prepared, than last year, and IF they can fill a few big holes, is it reasonable to think they might go far in the playoffs?

I understand winston's skepticism, but am not quite there yet.

Add an incremental increase in Favre's play to hopefully better playcalling, and on D a better coached team and more aggressive calls to some roster moves that fill holes, and maybe, just maybe, they might?

If you say probably not, there's no good reason to bring Favre back.

You make it sound like Favre chose the Jets over a 25 million dollar offer. Favre chose to play over 25 million dollars.

Yeah, he chose to play for 25 million instead of staying home and taking the 25 million for nothing.

I think we are saying the same thing?

The Bottom line was he did not have to play for the money because it was going to be given to him by the Packers anyways. He "Chose" to play for it !!

no, you're missing the point... he just chose to play. He has more money than he needs.

    why are you dumb??

Thats a relief. At least he didn't come here to throw ghastly interceptions that would have gotten him benched on a peewee team.
