I was just thinking about the clauses int he trade that give us a 2nd round pick and im wondering if the saints franchising vilma counts as them resigning him (landing us a 2nd round draft pick)
if we get their 2nd round pick the giants get their 1st round pick right?...I dont think they do anything to lose both (i know that doenst really answer ur qeustion, just saying)
Is Vilma eligible to be franchised? I thought you had to have fairly few seasons under your belt to be franchised.
Nope. Kurt Warner can be franchised, Matt Ryan could be franchised (if he wasn't under contract.) It doesn't matter time served.
No, but it wouldn't be a 1st & 2d. As it stands now without signing Vilma, they lose their 2d to the Giants and thei 3d to the Jets and get our 4th. So they lose thir 2d either way and get our 4th either way. The difference would be that they give up their 1st instead of their 3d if they sign him
I don't know the particulars of the deal, so maybe they thought of this, but in case they didn't: When you Franchise a player, you offer him a contract and institute a league rule that says no one else can sign him, but you haven't actually signed him to that contract. The contract is sitting out there and he can sign it and play for you or he can not sign it and hold out for you to trade him or to play in Canada or flip burgers or something. At some point, if he's not fond of Canada and isn't a good griller, he will sign the contract, either to play for you or to be traded by you. So, *technically*, you haven't signed him until he signs the contract, which would likely be after Free Agency starts.
That would be pretty insane. Doubt it ever happens. He probally signs with the Dolphins and wins Defensive MVP with 237 Tackles and 8 sacks...
if he signs with them, its resigning someone.... so this should be in the clause of the contract.... if Tanny didn't cover this "loophole" shame on him, and good for the Saints. He's a draft pick either way, and the optimistic thinking is that the Jets will draft someone to make us love the fact that we traded Vilma away.
