Rotowire says that the lions will not resign him next season. Although he played horribly last season, i think we should give him a chance. the reason he struggled was because he was in a system that didnt fit him. When he was on the browns he was a top notch corner. After his putrid season last year i dont think he will cost that much and i think he could be a nice #2 next to revis. what do u guys think?
I always liked him. He's a tough player and can play man coverage. Bodden would seem to be a good fit on a Rex Ryan defense.
If he can play man-coverage I'd have no problems bringing him here. We need guys who can play man coverage.
hes a great man coverage guy, he just cant play zone which is why he sucked last season. He is currently on the lions roster but they dont want to pay him the 8 mil he is due next season plus 4m roster bonus. Someone should tell rexypoo too call his agent
How does a CB not fit a system? I don't buy that excuse. Zone or man to man, you still have to cover the WRs. Its not like he is too small to be a CB in a particular system, yet very good in a different system.
It's actually a 8.6 million roster bonus and that's what happens when you have idiot GMs writing these contracts. http://www.freep.com/article/200902... Mayhew Lions CB Leigh Bodden on his way out
We have cap issues--- all riding on King Favre... i don't want to even get myself hyped for free agents until the king decides.
nope, he looked good for 1 or 2 yrs with the browns cashed in off the season where he shut down Chad Johnson and a couple other top tier WR's goes to DET and sucks. no thanks.
With some cornerbacks it is indeed about the system. Exhibit A would be Jason David. He was alright in Indianapolis in 2006 and was pathetic with New Orleans in 2007. He was somewhat better in 2008, but still not good. New Orleans signed him because they mistakenly thought he could play man coverage. Well, he cannot. I watched Bodden quite a bit when he played in Cleveland and I liked him because he is tough, he had some good performances against elite receivers, and he can play man coverage. I don't like cornerbacks who are only effective in a zone defense.
bodden is a good corner...i would have no complaints our secondary is a mess and i would look for our team to add 2 safeties and 2 corners to the roster...
Leigh Bodden? Idk maybe. The guy playing opposite Revis doesnt have to be great if we can can a good pass rush. He just has to be better then the guys we currently have excluding Revis obviosly.
Point is if we can get another CB who excels at man coverage it'd free up the blitz greatly. None of Barrett, Law or Lowery could play man last year, they are all slow as molasses. Bodden was considered an above average corner before last year, he was sent the other way in the Rogers trade. I'd love to pick him up.
i think we could give him a shot, even though he did horrible on the lions he obviously had no support.
Nah. Guy was bad this year but thats cause he was on the lions , No shit right? yeah but hes decent but i say go for someone else.
he'd be a fine #2 while lowery is in the slot/safety. Lowery might be a better safety anyway... 5 forced fumbles in his rookie season?? damn.
