I'm doing an interactive mock draft for the Jets on a different board and I wanted some opinions of other posters here who were familiar with the team and team needs. First off comes free agency and for how this mock works the Jets get 10 mil in cap space to use in resigning players and in free agency. The Free Agency period in the IMD has ended. For results see the post below. The Draft has begun. For results see the post below. Question: If Mark Sanchez is available at #21 (I moved down) do I take him or do I stick with my draft plan and take Hakeem Nicks? I signed Leftwich and still have Clemens, Ratliff and Ainge on the roster.

GM.............no offense. I've been around a while, and have NEVER, seen one of theses crazy Mocks, with Free Agents, Caps., trades etc., ever get completed. They attempt them, but usually die off quickly. IMO, there a waste of bandwidth. Our TGG Mock is successful because we keep it simple. No trades, FAs, and all the fluff........just a player.
I've been a participant in this "crazy" interactive mock for a few years now and it always runs smoothly and is always completed. So back to the question at hand, how does everyone feel about the FA signings?
Igor Olshansky, formerly of the San Diego Chargers, is another worth looking at for our DE spot. The Chargers are probably not going to resign him. He would add crazy strength to our defensive line. Ellis could get traded to one of those new 3-4 teams (Denver, Green Bay) if Olshansky is signed.
I like Canty. I'd rather draft a DE, but he would be a good signing. He might not come cheap though. EDIT: I agree with the above poster about Olshansky. He's a very big guy with tremendous strength and would be worth a look. Love the Page signing. Definitely someone to look for. Is he an RFA though? If we can't get Richardson back, I'd take Weaver. He's much younger and could be here for a long time. Another great signing with Kelvin Hayden. Young and still has his best ahead of him. Could you fir this all under the cap? As for QB, the Ratliff evaluation was very favorable. I agree he has some nice potential, but we still need another QB. You want a veteran? Go for Byron Leftwich. See what he can do with a better surrounding team. Other than Sanchez, I'm not a big fan of this year's QB class. Go for Leftwich. Let him compete with Ratliff and Clemens to start. I'd even go for a late round guy in the 7th to see if you can strike gold. Maybe Todd Boeckman or a small school.
The GM of the Texans just laid down a monster bid for Hayden (6 mil cap hit) and I can't afford to compete with him for Hayden and still try and get the rest of my guys. Instead of Hayden I have turned my attention to Ronald Bartell from the Rams who will turn 27 February 22nd. He has only been in the league for 4 years, in a limited role (only started one game) in 2006 he had 25 tackles (all of which were solo tackles), 3 PBUs and 3 INTs (1 TD). In 2007 he played in all games but only started 12 and amassed 67 tackles, 9 PBUs and 2 INTs. This past season he started every game for the first time and had 57 tackles, 19 PBUs and 3 INTs. He too could make a very good #2 CB opposite Revis and he was my 1b to Hayden (1a) in the first place. He is also 6'1 and 210 lbs.
Chris canty- Just read he is looking for tommy kelly money... Not sure hes gonna get it but 1 we dont have the cash to pay for a kid that isnt a star yet. I like canty for 3 mil a year but not 6. Jarrad Page- I always say this kid as more of a ss than a fs. A guy with avg speed who can hit, i could be wrong. Leonard Weaver- would be a nice pickup, richardson says he wants to be back for two more years. So i guess we need to weigh out our options on how much each guy wants. + how good is weaver at blocking, I always heard and thought of him as more of a recieving rushing fb. Which im not opposed to if we have a guy who can block at fb. Kelvin hayden- Youve already explained this in a later post. Besides the fact that i think the colts are gonna resign him. I think that hayden would demand a large chunk of change, obv no where near a nnandi or dunta, dont be surprised if hayden wants atleast 4-5 mil a year, with a nice signing bonus Bartell- I like this kid too, but I think that the rams are gonna resign him. they dont have much talent in the secondary besides otagwe and hill didnt play very well this year. I myself would look to free up as much cap space and try as hard as we can to get bart scott. He isnt the youngest fa lb, but he knows the system and he is a hard hitter something we havent had since the mo lewis days. We might have to pay a pretty penny for him but he will def help smoothen the change from coaches. I'm not giving up on elam because rex has done wonders with dbs, but id like to bring in leonard to compete with elam. Drop smith and the cap change wont be too much difference. Elam is a hard hitter while imo leonard is better at coverage, but can still lay the hit. again this can help smoothen the transition of coaches and hopefully some competition will help both of these guys get better. Olshansky- This guy isnt great but he is young and gives a mean attitude to our line. He will also come cheaper than canty and can provide a nice rotation between coleman and ellis. kleinasser- Id like to see us drop bubba franks and sign jimbo. Jim is a great blocker and can catch as well. BUbba was imo a failure fa. Granted he didnt get many chances and we didnt pay him that much. Id like to see us give jim a couple mil if he doesnt get resigned. ss- gerald sensabaugh if we cant get leonard, sensabaugh is a lengthy kid who i think has a bunch of upside. He can make tackles and plays well in coverage. i dont think we need to look at any wrs in fa because i dont think anyone out there is better or will help us any more than our wrs.
Would be another nice signing. He would probably be cheaper to obtain than Hayden if he hit the market.
Jarrad Page can play either SS or FS and the same goes for Kerry Rhodes. We need two experienced + versatile safeties in order for Rex Ryan's defense to work and now we have two safeties that can come up in the box, blitz, or drop back into coverage. And he is young so we can get him for a long time and he is just starting to tap his potential. Canty will probably be looking for that kind of money in real life but I am pretty sure I can get him for less in the mock. Bartell will hopefully only be a 2 mil cap hit at most. Weaver is a great receiving+running FB and has gotten much better as a blocker. He would give us an extra weapon to use. "Weaver is a talented rusher and receiver with developing blocking skills. His execution is still primitive, but he’s a recently converted tight end faced with an abbreviated learning curve. As sure as his imperfections glared under the hot August sun, his passion and potential burned through the cold winter months. Weaver has a fistful of talent and the soul of a hustler. It’s too bad this might be his final season in Blue." - John Morgan who covers the Seahawks. "As a blocker, Weaver runs readily and makes solid contact. Because of his feet and overall strength, Weaver has the potential to be a very good blocker, but he just doesn't always know who to block." ""I know my job. I've got to go out here and open some holes. That's my primary thing and that's what I'm going to do. And it's just like last year, if they give it to me, great. I'm going to do my job. I think I can (change the perception of fullback). I think it's something I can do around the league. I want to change the perception – you can run, block, pass-block and be able to get out and catch the ball on screens and be able to make yourself versatile to do some things." - Leonard Weaver
Just an update: So far the cap hits look like they will be: Bartell - 1.5 mil Page - 1 mil Weaver - 1 mil Leftwich - 2 mil <-- Do I need to sign him with Kellen, Ratliff and possibly Favre coming back? Canty - no bids have been made on him yet so if I'm lucky I can use the leftover 4.5 mil in cap space to get him
At this point it is, who would I rather have for 4.5 million of my cap space, Chris Canty or Channing Crowder?
Canty over Crowder. we have OLB's coming out our ass. We don't like some of the guys we have (thomas/gholston) but we have to keep and pay them, so go for a position that will get the biggest upgrade which is at DE.
Trades I am trying to make: Trying to trade Coles for an early 2nd round pick to get either DHB, Britt or Nicks. Trying to get any or all of these players from the Falcons: Jamaal Anderson (DE), Chris Houston (CB), Laurent Robinson (WR), Kroy Biermann (3-4 OLB) in exchange for draft picks+Lowery. I know Lowery is a promising young CB but he isn't fast enough to play man-to-man all the time and his strength is in zone coverage while Houston's strength is man-to-man coverage and is weak in zone which is what Atlanta uses.
For this mock the Jets get 10 mil in cap space. Jarrad Page will be a 1 mil cap hit. Leonard Weaver will be a 1 mil cap hit. Byron Leftwich will be a 2 mil cap hit. Ronald Bartell will be a 1.5 mil cap hit. Chris Canty will be a 4.5 mil cap hit. 1+1+2+1.5+4.5=10 I will have just enough to get the players that I want. Which means I go into the draft with 5 additional starters at S, FB, QB, CB, and DE so I can have a very good offseason for the Jets.
