First off, I was one of the bigger TJ supporters this year. I think he's a solid back and the offense basically went as he did. RB's almost always decline rapidly once they hit the age of 30. After leading the AFC in rushing and scoring 13 TD's his value will never be as high as it is now. The RB position is the easiest one to plug in a rookie and behind this offensive line, a solid RB prospect should prosper. We also have Leon who could definitely use more carries. I think we should try to get a 2nd for TJ right now and pickup a young buck.
If someone is willing to part with a 2nd for him, then sure. I don't think he'll command that kind of value though.
I don't buy this. It is true he's at the 30 range, but unlike most running backs, he was underutilized early in his career and was never anything near a workhorse in Arizona or Tampa. Even in Chicago he never carried the ball 350 times a year or anything. I would be in favor of drafting a power/workhorse RB this year. How early depends on who we sign in free agency or what value there is. I think TJ still has at least one more good season in him. And if he's used right, maybe two or three or four... What we should do is have him split even more time with Leon. Give TJ about 260-280 carries this year, but also give Leon at least 125 (These are rough figures of course). This will keep him fresher while also utilizing Leon's speed and game-breaking ability more. But an interesting thought, and you could prove to be right when next year comes around. Don't lose this thread.
Yeah that's the problem. I agree we deal him if we can. If not, no big loss, he's still a solid player.
No, don't trade him. I just got his jersey. Every time I get a players jersey, he either gets traded or retires. Last player to do that after I bought his jersey was Vilma. LOL
his value would be lower than a 2nd for the reasons you listed you would have to believe that every GM in the league is no smarter than you are in order to pull this off i think he has more value with us, than not, especially since washington compliments him so well
If we could get a second, I say you definately take that deal. But, I'd have to imagine that most teams would rather use the 2nd round pick to draft a RB that could last you 10 years rather than trading it for an aging one.
If Tanny could swing a trade that would enable us to get a 2nd rounder for him....I'd be all for it. But in reality, I can't see it happening. His age alone would dictate a 4th or 5th rounder. It could be pretty tough to find a trading partner to boot. If it COULD happen, who're are some of the HB-starved teams out there that would be interested, in your opinion WSW? Here are some possibilities that come to mind: -Tampa (Earnest Graham coming off injury, Cadillac's knee is toast) -Denver is always looking for backs (unless they convert Hillis from a FB to a fulltime HB on a more permanent basis)
I'm not opposed this thought. I like TJ, but this would work. I watched Caulcrick at TC last summer (250 pounds) and he's worth looking at again.
In all honesty, I would say "nobody"....especially when HBs are being drafted in the later rounds and producing right away at a high level (eg Peyton Hillis). But you never know....there's always one GM out there that could be "suckered" by Tanny....
these kind of threads make me hate being a jet fan......seriously....we r not and shuldnt trade tj...get real
can we stop wantin to get rid of our players please...he was a top 5, pro bowl, afc leading rusher who's salary isnt that bad player...and trade him?
Let's say theoretically we are able to deal Thomas Jones for a good draft pick... What do you guys think of having a backfield of Washington as the primary back and LaMont Jordan as the change of pace power back again?
 who is giving us this 2nd rounder for a 30 yr old player..... lmao shonn green or thomas jones hmmm
