I don't think Carr is done at all... Between Leftwich and Carr. I'd rather have Carr. Leftwich isa a sack waiting to happen because of his lack of mobility. And yes I realize Carr has taken his fair share of sacks, I think he learned alot with the Giants.
I think this is clear it was a poster. Besides, we know more about football the most writers New Jet QB- Leftwitch?
Did you watch Carr on Carolina? He's done. The guy's head isn't there anymore - he takes off or checks down at the first sign of pressure.
When we had a QB from Marshall last time, it wasn't exactly fun to watch football. Leftwich can take a hike.
Maybe as a Back up but i would rather go with Clemens or Ratliff or have Favre come back if the doc says he's healthy.
Hate that philosophy. I honestly don't think there is a QB in this draft that is franchise capable outside of Stafford. Yes that includes Sanchez in my group of people i dont think is going to be that franchise caller. I would rather bring in a vet to compete, and look at the draft next year.
I guess we need a new Leftwich thread at the end of every week. What, we haven't discussed this before?
I'll admit I'd rather have Leftwich than someone like Anderson or Grossman, but that's probably because Anderson and Grossman are downright terrible. Leftwich is the cream of the crap (apologies for cliche). There are no free agent QB available right now that I would ever want to see wear a Jets uniform, ever.
There are 3 teams that could take QB'S out there the Lions, KC & the 9ers. I think the 9ers are going to let Hill & Smith battle it out for the spot so if the Lions & KC do not both take QBS than we will get Stafford or Sanchez & have our QB for the future.
I think it would make more sense to find a patchwork solution for this year, then wait until next year to try to draft a QB when the crop of QBs will be a lot better than this year. For this year, either Favre again, some other low-paid old fart veteran that at least doesn't turn it over too much, or one of our current backups. The chances are low that we draft anyone at all at QB this year, much less anyone who has long-term potential. I think the 2 decent QBs in the draft will go before the Jets get a pick. If Favre retires, Leftwich wouldn't be terrible assuming we don't have to pay him a shitload of money. I think Garcia would also be good for a 1 year solution. I've never really seen much out of David Carr. Ideally, I'd rather have Kerry Collins, but he'll be back in Tennessee again. Maybe we'll get a surprise out of Ratliff. Maybe we can a young backup from some other team. Doubtful though.
The Pennington hate is overwhelming considering the success the Jets had with him opposed to other QB's in our non-illustrious history. The college a QB played at is also completely irrelevant, but the injury history however is. If we are going to pick up a vet QB for competition, Leftwich is the only viable option. He looked good in spot duty for Pitt this year, is still young, and will come cheap. That said, i'd hope Clemens or Ratliff would beat him out.
I wouldn't be against Leftwich, why not? He would actually show up before August, not take up $12 million of cap and there wouldn't be another retirement drama after next season. Plus I think he's a pretty good QB.
I have been pushing for Leftwich for a while. The guy can play. He has a slow release but look at his body of work. Not terrible at all. He's got a big arm which I feel is very important to have when you play in the Northeast and the owner feels that way as well. I think there is a realistic chance that he is brought in here to it least compete with Ratliff and Clemens for the starting job. You should have it least one guy on the roster at the QB posistion who has experience at the QB posistion. Clemens does have experience but not enough. I think the Jets should give Leftwich a shot.
I think if Favre does not come back we need to have Kellen, Ratliff & Ainge battle it out & the best guy get the job. I think bringing in Leftwich is a short term answer but it does not fix the problem long term.
