How about Tannenbaum should have been shown the door. I still have no idea why he has his job. If I had to guess I would say Johnson is scared to death to hire a real GM. He probably has no idea what questions to even ask. He never hired Tannenbaum to begin with, he just promoted him into the job.
Jets still say they want an answer by the end of the combine which makes Peter King WRONG AGAIN this guy makes shit up he has nothing to write about.
Because Tannenbaum has done a good job. Clearly he was pressured into doing the Favre move. The moves where he doesn't seem to be pressured by upper management (drafting Revis, Harris, Rhodes, Leon, Keller... trading for Jenkins, Thomas Jones... signing Pace, Faneca, Richardson) have been good ones. There haven't been to many moves he's made where we can look back and go, "Damn, that didn't work out" besides Favre, who I believe is here because Woody was obsessed with getting him. Anyway, we needed an upgrade over Chad, unfortunately, Favre ended up bombing the last 5 games.
Since Woody has admitted he lies to the fans, it's not really relevant what he, Tannenbaum, or Ryan say publicly anymore is it? It's too the point where a fan can only watch now. The Jets organization has become such a joke, being only greedy bastards who care about money first, second, and third, and then winning.
If I had to guess I'd say it's because he stocked the team with Pro Bowl players and drafted guys like Leon Washington, Brad Smith, Nick Mangold, Dustin Keller, David Harris, Darrelle Revis, etc. Regarding Favre, personally I think it's Woody's love affair with him that is dictating what Tanenbaum and Ryan (and previously Mangini) can do. You think Mr. Safe Mangini wanted Favre helicoptering in in the middle of camp and having to revise the offense they worked on all off-season? I don't.
You make a good point, but I don't think anyone cares. They are just looking for an excuse to whine more. To reinforce my POV, I can't help but notice that few are even commenting on the contradicting & much more credible report. Yep. The same comment applies to lots of posters here. Normally you'd think this would settle it, but ... the floodgates of Jetland have opened, and ... God and you guys still wonder why the rest of the NFL thinks you guys are @$$holes and never shows your team respect? It isn't rocket science to figure out that if you constantly dish out hate to the rest of the country, no one will like you or your team. OK, we dissed the south, it's only a matter of time ... No, it clearly is not. I have to say I'm starting to feel the same. I was really high on this team even as they crashed and burned at the end, I just liked the attitude of some of the core people like Mangold, Jenkins, Washington. Great players on the field, but just as great off. But after a month of reading here, the negative vibes that the "fans" posting here drag into being a fan of this team really start to stink things up as the memory of the football and the players fade in the offseason. I actually personally think Favre should retire (although I don't think he has to, I think he probably can still play better than anyone else on the roster or who will likely be available). For what it's worth, I thought last season he should have stayed retired, and not gone along with the trade to the Jets. I just didn't think it was a good fit, and never really even started believing it could amount to much more than a one & done in playoffs at best, until the 2nd Pats & Titans games briefly lit up hopes. But if he does decide to keep playing, at this point I'm not sure I might not almost find it easier to stomach seeing him in purple than to play for a team with such vicious fans. There were people on Packer boards who were very vocal about their irritation with Favre's offseason silences too. But you guys here, after only 33 days of offseason, have already gone way beyond in nastiness what those guys managed over 3+ years. I can't understand why Favre would want to put up with another year of this bullshit. He must actually have a lot MORE drive to still play than you guys realize, if he is seriously still mulling this over. I just want to clarify that I realize that lots of posters here aren't as bad as the couple I quoted above. But you guys should realize that rest of the NFL sees and hears about them more than they notice you ...
He also hired Mangini and drafted Gholston. Very expensive mistakes. Just changing Mangini is nowhere near enough to turn this mess around.
Mangini is/was a good coach, two winning seasons out of three, and if the owner hadn't forced Favre upon him would likely have two playoff appearances in three seasons. All of that after taking over an aging mess left behind from the 2005 season. It didn't take him long to get another head coaching job, either, about a week or two. Gholston has only been here a year, and is the only real draft mistake (so far), compared to tons of success all throughout the other drafts Tannenbaum has run. Everyone gets one wrong once in a while, and the jury is still out on Gholston.
Puddnhead why do you let these guys on this site bother you ? They try to make Favre the fall guy but bottom line the whole team stunk after a 8 & 3 start.
You have to admit he was a huge part of it. I'll agree our D wore out, but when they did make a big stop Favre would give the ball right back. You can't win that way, you can't keep giving free posessions in the NFL.
Seafood I respectfully disagree our pass D could stop no one all year it was the 2nd worst in the game & after our 8 & 3 start we could not stop the run. If you can not stop the run & the pass YOU WILL NEVER WIN PERIOD.
Anybody blaming or hating Favre right now should have expected him not to make a decision unless they didn't know who he was before we traded for him. If you're going to blame anyone for this situation, blame Tanny and Woody.
Again, I agree our D went downhill fast, but we were still in the games we lost for the most part, if we hadn't kept giving the ball away. Even the game we won vs Buffalo the D had to pull it out at the end. I'm not putting it all on Favre, but he was a huge part of it.
lol yea i love how people are surprised when this is what hes done the last 5 years even to the team he'll be remembered as a legend for. of course hed do this to whatever 1-3 year stop he had afterwards. im not angry or anything, ive always believed the initial report about Favre giving a decision by the combine. if it drags out past Feb than ill start to get impatient.
I would say the biggest reason was 1 our D we could not stop a high school team 2 Sutton he refused to blitz & he rushed 3 guys all day his prevent D killed us it let teams pick us apart all day 3 Schotty the last 5 games did not get the ball to Leon & Kellers hands 4 Mangini did not play to win I felt like we still had Herm 5 Favre IMO that is the order of where the blame should go
Yes, until then it will be mostly arguments between the people that hate his guts and the people that worship the ground he walks on. I'll get pissed when it cuts into preparation for next season, because that's when Favre's commitment to the team becomes apparent.
Until we get new personnel on Defense we still wont be able to stop a High School team. We have overrated or bad players. We can start with our Defensive ends and work from there!
