Drew Brees struggled horribly the season before Philip Rivers was drafted. The Chargers thought Brees wasn't a franchise signal caller.

Not a fit but I see the rationale. Probably a perfect trade down scenario in real life but since that can't happen now I see the point.

I like the pick. YES QB might not as been a big of need but the value was too good to pass up. You can keep Stafford and make him push Campbell or you can trade one down the road into something sweet.

You should have taken Stafford with the first pick. Franchise quartebacks are hard to come by. While Campbell has shown promise he could regress and injuries are always possible. Reaching for perceived need is generally a bad idea when much higher value can be had.

The Jets had Vinny Testaverde and Ray Lucas (who ended up starting for Miami) had a decent year while he was injured, Penington was not a need.

I cannot envision Detroit taking a linebacker #1 overall. Unless Stafford gets injured before the draft or gets into trouble with the law, I expect him to be the Lions selection.

Testaverde was to turn 37 years of age in November of that year and was coming off an Achilles injury. Ray Lucas was a backup type QB and was not being groomed to be a franchise QB.
Quarterback was a position of need for the Jets in 2000 and I was thrilled when the Jets drafted Pennington.

You could argue that Campbell is a good QB and not a great one though. In his first season that he started every game he was good this year. 13 TD's to 6 picks. Not a lot of scores, but not many mistakes. That play it a little too safe attitude was reflected in his low 6.4 Yards per attempt. Tied for the lowest amongst QB's that started all 16 games this year. He isa good manager but not a difference make at QB and Stafford has that potential.

I agree that the skins probly do not pick him here. If stafford was to fall that far you could probly see a lot of action trying to trade up. Just saying it could be agrued either way.

I should have done what? Sorry that I didn't select the player that you wrongly chose - I know your pick would have been ideal to trade out of, but we can't do that...a reach would have made more sense.

Matt Stafford is being compared to Jeff George. The Lions' new coaching staff doesn't look like they want a rookie quarterback.

The NFL official draft scouts rated another junior quarterback ahead of Stafford in the ratings they put out a few days ago. I thought about taking this unnamed guy, not Stafford.

No quarterback whether he's a tested veteran or an unproven rookie will be successful on the Lions next season. Sometimes you have to go in a different direction and I believe Detroit will do that by building their defense up first.

Like I said when I made the Aaron Curry pick: nothing is a sure thing, but Curry is the best defensive player and he's the closest thing to a sure thing.

Drew Brees was injured the year before. (only played 11 games) Still Chargers had the number 1 pick and took Eli Manning despite the fact his father told everyone he wouldn't play IN SanDiego . Traded Eli to Giants for Rivers and a boat load of picks.

A lot of that had to do with the offense that Jim Zorn runs in Washington - a ton of short passes.

That is true. The hard thing to tell, without watching a lot of tape, is Campbell taking the check down every time? Is he not even looking to go down feild? Is it all the offense or is some of it the QB?

His YPA averages in 3 seasons are 6.3, 6.5, 6.4. Nothing great. 35 TD to 23 Picks Career. Not bad, not great. He's a nice young QB. I wish the Jets had someone like him on the roster. That said I would rather have two very good young QB's to choose from then a huge question mark at the position if Campbell level out where he is now.

Hard to see WSH doing that kind of pick but I understand where Hasty comes from as there werent many true cut DT or OT left but I still would have addressed the O-Line in some way.....Kendall, Rabach, B Thomas, and Jansen are swiss cheese. Doesnt have to be a tackle anyway, just they need to beef the line up. Its pretty bad.

Besides Colt Brennan is supposed LOVED by Zorn and Co. and the Redskin fanbase. Zorn's job hangs on Campbell's development and drafting Stafford would kinda make Zorn look bad.

I forgot about Colt Brennan but still would have had to take Stafford here. If they really wanted to I am sure that the skins could deal Stafford and before camp starts. Either way there is no good reason to reach.

OK, gots a lot of catching up to do.

    1) Detroit - Aaron Curry, LB, Wake Forest- I'll say about this pick what I would say if it happened it real life. It's incredibly ballsy. It's the kind of pick that sets a tone for a GM/coach's career. If it works, it's brilliant, if not, then it can be dooming.

The thing about it, is that if it were my team, I would only draft a Quarterback that I was 100% comfortable with. You can say that about any position, but it clearly rings the most true with QBs. If Mr. E was the Lions GM, and he just flat out wasn't comfortable with Stafford being the guy, then it'd be foolish to draft him. I would be comfortable with him personally, and it seems a lot of you are too, but that doesnt matter if you're not running the Lions.

    2) St. Louis - Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia- Thought about he vs Smith for a while, but I just hae a strong feeling that Monroe will at worst be a very good NFL player, and that's what the Rams need replacing an all time great.

    3) Kansas City - Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas- Flat out 5 star stud.

    4) Seattle - Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech- Had to.

    5) Cleveland - Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio State- Stud, would give the Browns a dynamite young secondary.

    6) Cincinnati - B.J. Raji, DT, Boston College- Animal, good start to legitimizing that D-Line.

    7) Oakland - Andre Smith, OT, Alabama- Like him, but question marks really bother me. I'm big on prototype size for LTs, and I just don't know if Smith can ever reach his potential. Still a borderline steal at 7 though.

    8) Jacksonville - Jason Smith, OT, Baylor- He'll need the most time of all the top OTs, but his potential is right there with the other Smith.

    9) Green Bay - Michael Oher, OT, Ole Miss- Falling stock scares me, might have looked to add a stud defensive player for the 3-4.

    10) San Francisco - Everette Brown, DE/OLB, Florida St.- Kind of like this guy.

    11) Buffalo - Peria Jerry, DT, Ole Miss- I like it a lot, Jerry is very much under the radar as far as the overall draft scene goes, but I'm really confident he'll be a good pro.

    12) Denver - Rey Maualuga, LB, USC- Ability to play inside leaves DJ outside for good, which makes the LB corps exponentially better.

    13) Washington - Matthew Stafford, QB, Georgia- I'm not a big Campbell fan, but I'm not sure it's yet time to be looking in the first round for a QB. Then again, it's really tough to pass on a kid that I would personally have taken #1, like Hasty said.

    14) New Orleans - Brian Cushing, LB, USC- Great fit, should be a serious weapon on that D.

    15) Houston - Vontae Davis, CB, Ill.- WW loves his Corners, Vontae could be a monster with his ridiculous speed and ability to make plays.

Overall, great job by the good majority.

Don't feel bad about it, I seriously considered Everette Brown at #6 Overall and IMO the 49ers will be lucky if he's still on the board for them in April ... I think he can rise into the TOP 5, he's that explosive, could be one of those "WRECK THE GAME" 34OLB's

So I wouldn't apologize for that pick if I were you

Hey guys, I am sorry I wasn't able to make my pick. My internet has been acting up all day and this is the first time I have been able to get onto the internet for more than a few minutes. I am not really sure what is wrong but I am hoping it will be up and working tomorrow. I hope to be able to make my next pick but I am not sure if my internet will allow that... I am fine if you want to replace me for the rest of my Buffalo and Dallas picks because I know a lot of other guys want to be part of this.

GH.........Appreciate all your comments on everyone's picks!

I really wanted Curry (badly), or at worst Orakpo for the Brownies.......No deal. Jenkins' isn't bad sloppy seconds.

The Texans' need a DE opposito Super Mario, no such luck....no value. Davis will help their weak secondary. Dunta's status and health are ???s.

Jason, No problem, that's up to you. I usually don't boot someone for missing one pick, especially if you show up later, as you just did......shit happens. You have no picks till Rd2........try to stay in if you can. If you need give it up....PM me. You can always PM Buffalo's board for Rd2.
