    Actually,

I think; just like myself, there are quite a few "Wanna Be" Jet's fans for life that are taking a wait and see attitude on how the end of Brett's career goes down !!

The man was playing HURT. A healthy 40 year old Brett Favre is still better than most healthy 30somethings, and most 20somethings who sustained his injury would have put themselves on the shelf for the year. He wasn't playing for money unlike many athletes, he was playing bc he's a fierce competitor. And you want to throw that kind of athlete under the bus?!
You don't go to the NFC championship, one pass away from a super bowl...and have your talent evaporate in one offseason. If he comes back, and he has an entire year to prepare distraction-free (the packer camp situation, the un-retiring) with a better grip on the playbook and established chemistry with his receivers - he will do better. And 9-7, with one of those wins a complete smackdown of a super bowl team, is not a failure. We failed down the stretch bc his arm was dead. And not dead-tired...dead-injured. You couldn't stick your foots in your mouth with a torn biceps, most of you anyway.

Meaning, how well he actually plays in a game, or, how thoroughly he is coddled and fawned over by fans and management???

In his last 4 Decembers he has tailed off, was he hurt all 4 years?

If he was so hurt, why has he not gotten the surgery on his arm done yet?

How come he kept throwing the deep pick?

Why did he not tell Schotty to call more running plays and slants?

His decision making sucked, was his brain hurt too?

Nice points, I do think we should bring him back one more year just because the facts could be right in the order that points to him being good still, He plays great his last year with the packers, and he continues to play great with the jets until he is injured.

So, I have a question for the Favre fanboys...

How are you going to root for him when he forces his way out of town and puts on a Minnesota Vikings jersey in '09?

I root for whoever is wearing a JETS jersey.
To root against them while they're still wearing green and white, makes no sense at all... especially when these types of personnel calls are out of the hands of us fanboys anyway.

Obviously there are players I like more than others, and some players I don't think should be on the the team at all. But as long as they're on the team - they're on the team and they have my support. I might not be quiet when they're playing poorly, but I don't wish for their ultimate exile either.

It's why I rooted for Chad. I'm rooting for Favre as long as he's listed as the #1 QB on our depth chart today. If Kellen starts, I throw my support to him. If it's Ratcliff...then he gets it. And so on.

Some players I'll miss more than others when they leave and others not at all, but when they're a Jet...I don't have to worry about missing or not missing them. They have my support.
It's like my family...no matter how much we might agree or disagree, like or even dislike each other...I still love them unconditionally because they're my family.
And I love the Jets, for better or worse...in sickness and in health...etc.
I hope Favre stays just to weed out the weaknesses in our fan base. And with this Favre- bashing, it doesn't get much weaker.

I'm not talking about you, I'm talking about the people that followed him here from Green Bay. I think it would be pretty tough to follow him to a division rival. That's really how you separate the Favre fans from the Packer fans.

If Favre put himself on the shelf the team wouldn't have gone 1-4 down the stretch.

    1-http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2008/12/new_york_jets_favre_wont_need.html
(read the second paragraph about how he WON'T need surgery if he decided to play)

2-BC of the injury...duh. They weren't meant to be picks. Who throws an intentional pick?

3-Better question...why not throw more screens to the Little Engine That Does (Leon)?
I don't think the players tell the coaches what plays to call or there would be no need for coaches. My guess here is that defenses, knowing he was hurt, weren't worried about the pass and Favre and/or Schotty thought they could fool them.

4-The decisions (and the results of those decisions) are based on the answer to #2 above.
As far as questioning his brain...he DID choose to play for the Jets when he could've retired and collected 25 million from the Packers NOT to play. Perhaps it's dumb to not take the money and run.

I don't know Lantern if he was really hurting that bad, why was he making the decision to attempt that many deep throws that led to picks.

I guess it did not matter he threw just as many on shorter and even real short throws.

Again if he was hurting and he told Schotty maybe we would have seen more runs and slants.

Seems kind of selfish if you ask me.

I love how anti Brett some people are on here. Do I swear by the guy? No. But he IS, IS.....IS (this is a statement of fact not opinion) our best option in '09. Nobody on this site can convince me, whether individually or collectively, that the NY Jets BEST option is on there sidelines. If you truly believe that, if you truly believe the Jets would be better off with Clemens or Ainge or Ratcliff, then I suggest you find a nice quiet spot and stop breathing.

What if he goes to.... ESPN... do they follow him there and begin painting ESPN letters on their chests? The whole things a bit weird. I ultimately root for the team first. No player is bigger than the team to me. I loved Chad, but I'll be damned to hell before I become a Dolphin fan. I'd still like to see Chad be a good QB in this league, providing he loses to the Jets twice a year and we are ahead of them in wins.

I can see fans of Favre wanting him to do well and being supportive of the Jets, but not over the success of their own team. I think if he managed to end up in Minnesota that would change things for most of them.
