I don't understand how a Mets fan can feel as though your team can compete, if not come out of the NL as a contender for a title. I'm really not trying to be a dick, I just think that Minaya has completely botched this off-season.

 You serious? Best staff in baseball? I HATE the Red Sox but Beckett, Lester, Dice K, Smoltz and Penny/Wakefield shit on that rotation.

CC/AJ/Wang/Pettite/Joba also is a better rotation then that sir.

Well it's comforting to know that you're only being a dick by accident.

Why are you in this thread?

Yeah, he should of overspent to lock up players long term by bidding against himself. Thats the way things get done.

Apparently whatever way he has been using to get things done hasn't worked.

That rotation is FAR from the best in the bigs. I can think of 5 of the top of my head that are better. NYY, Bos, TB, SF and potentially Philly. Maybe even add Atlanta, altho they have more questions than answers.

This post loses credibility when you suggest that any rotation with Barry Zito in it is in the top 5 in the majors. Tim Lincecum is only one man.

Zito's basically the 5th starter on that team at this point.

    1-Lincecum
    2-Johnson
    3-Cain
    4-J. Sanchez
    5-Zito
    Lowry

C'mon. How is that a bad rotation? Zito signed a shit contract, obviously, but after the All-Star break, he really turned it around. Most pundits see Zito coming back with a 15 win season, which is phenomal for the shit he has thrown the past few seasons.

Hey instead of shitting on what I have to say which is certainly your right, how about you explain to me how you think the Mets are going to overtake the Phillies this year. Because I don't see it. And your assertation that a rotation with Sheets and Ollie makes your starting 5 the best in baseball is a complete and total joke. I'll even give you best in the NL. But your not even getting Sheets because it's the smart thing to do and your GM is Omar Minaya. And Ollie is an implosion machine. So let's assume you get Oliver Perez back because that probably will happen. Your rotation now looks like THE BEST PITCHER IN BASEBALL/Oliver Perez as your second starter which totally sucks/Pelfrey who's a solid 3 especially in the NL I actually like his upside/Maine who broke down last year and Garcia/Redding/Neise who imho sucks as your options for the 5 slot. Now I'm not so sure that's even the best rotation in your division.

It isn't even close to being the best rotation in the NL. Your right Minaya did screw things up and each day he doesn't sign Ollie it makes it all the more likely they will lose him. They won't get Sheets either because your right again it makes to much sense. The fact that they still don't have a starting 2B and a corner OF and they still have no depth on the bench is setting ths franchise up for another embarrasing season. All that being said it doesn't change the fact that you came in here to stir things up and create some controversy.

Bingo..... all the Giants need to do is go out and sign Manny and all of a sudden they'll be in the mix for the NL West. Lincecum is the 2nd best pitcher in the NL and Sanchez has the potential to be very good, he had a great stretch until he hit the rookie wall. Cain is very underrated and Zito/Lowrey aren't bad as a 5th option.

As long as you keep in mind that the only reason the Phillies won the division was the Mets bullpen. If the mets bullpen didn't blow half of those games they would have won the division easily. While the Mets still need another starter, just fixing the bullpen drastically improves the team from last year.

Agreed. Agreed completely that you guys have really done good things to the bullpen at a minimal cost. However, I'd be wary of K-Rod's arm. I am a huge fan of Putz. I would like to point out I'm not a Philly fan and am not biased towards either team but at the end of the day the way the teams are presently constituted right now I still give the edge to the Phillies

I came in here to stimulate some baseball conversation. And I think I've done a decent job. By the way the Mets will get Perez because no one else is really keen on giving him the deal the Mets will. In fact at this point theyre probably the only serious team in on him. I can understand the Mets reluctance to jump in on Dunn or Abreu because of their awful defense, but make no mistake Abreu'd make a really nice option for the 2 hole in the lineup.

If we get Perez, Sheets, maybe another reliever and Abreu (The Wilpons will block all hope for Manny and I give us 0% chance of signing Dunn for whatever reason), I would be satisfied with that team that way at least we can pitch our way to a title, even if Sheets gets hurt we have Garcia/Redding/Niese for a spot start although I wouldn't be satisfied with anything less
