All, I've been watching the situation out here in CA with the Chargers and Tomlinson and it looks like it's going to get quite ugly. Question is...even with LT's recent injury history, is Tomlinson somone the Jets should take a look at? He's a potential future HOF'er and he still, when healthy, has that pop. I think he would bring a veteran presence and feel he would be an upgrade to T. Jones. Any thoughts? The Mezz
Running Backs are a young man's game. We have some more pressing needs than our running game right now.
I don't think he'd be worth what it'd cost to get him. Veteran RBs past their prime are always overpaid (eg. Edge, Alexander, LJ). Plus he's the John Abraham of RBs. No thanks.
This is really the question isn't it. Now see, if I was the Chargers management I offer something that is reasonable, considering the injury history, just to keep him around to retire as a Charger...something Dallas wasn't able to do with Emmit. But that GM in San Diego is a real ass clown. It is true that RB is a young man's position but I still could see him in a Jets backfield, for the right price of course, teaming up with Washington to be a nice one two punch...much like he is now with Sproles. Which brings me to a little rant to close this post...see how SD uses Sproles...THAT is what I envision for L. Washington if used properly...ahhhh welll... The Mezz
Why would we want to spend money we don't have, on a position that doesn't need an upgrade? I mean come on, we need a S,CB, DE, QB, and some linebackers that know how to drop into pass coverage.
Our hands are tied behind out back (and blindfolded) until Favre decides whether or not he will hold this franchise hostage. We have NO cap space as long as (or until) Favre makes up his mind. LT is a HoF RB, but even if Favre goes away, I can't see it. Jones is solid enough, Leon needs the ball more often, and we could draft an RB on day 2. If I had no cap space issues, I'd rather look at Ward. In addition, if Baltimore signs Lewis, can they sign Suggs too?
Am I not right in thinking Leon had more carries and receptions for more yards than Sproles this past year? Looking it up, I am right. Leon: 76 carries for 448 yards at 5.9ypc and 47 receptions for 355 yards at 7.6 per catch. Sproles: 61 carries for 330 yards at 5.4ypc and 29 receptions for 342 yards at 11.8 per catch.
LT is one of my favorite athletes but RB is the least of our needs and we need to be prudent with our spending this year. Pass.
His name alone will command top dollar, and given his mileage and now compiling injuries, I'm not sure I want the JETS stuck holding that bill. What's the latest with his story? I haven't been keeping up
That is correct, but once LT got hurt (again) Sproles got most of his touches at the very end of the season, while Leon's touches were spread out over 16 games. Sproles did manage to hold up being the feature back, and I think that was the point Mezz was making. I just frankly don't think Sproles could do it for 16+ games and hold up.
Like I have said before. I like LT and I dont think he is washed up. But we have more pressing needs and dont need to be adding salaries like LT's when we have guys like TJ and Leon already under contract. Also LT does tend to get hurt at the worst times and he would be playing in a lot more bad weather games here then he currently does in San Diego. I think TJ is a better fit for this team.
No thank you...He is great and still has a few yrs left in his tank. He is also a yr younger than Jones. But we are not in a desperate need of RB as of right now. He'll demand atleast $6-8 mil a yr contract, something we can not afford. We can not pay that much for a FA that is not a need. I would take that money and spend it on our D. Maybe an LB, or DE, or CB or even a safety.
Yeah, I kinda think we can do good things with the running core we have. Jones would have gained a lot more yards had it not been for the major deviaiton to the game plan after we won the NE and Titans game. Also, we still need better utilization out of Leon Washington. I still do not think we have seen his absolute best game yet (though I do think he is awesome).
RB is the least of the Jets needs. other than the fact that you simply wanted to start a thread, or think assembling an actual team is just like in Madden, what is the purpose of advocating spending money on a position that the Jets are set in as opposed to actually improving the deficiencies that the team presently has?
An absolutely pointless move. Running back depth is one of the teams strength. Why would you waste money on one? Particularly in light of the fact LT is aging and on the decline. That move would definitely blow up in our faces.
