Actually, when you finance a new car, you must purchase gap insurance for the difference between market value of the car and the loan value. So it is indeed a secure loan. My personal opinion is that Woody is not doing anything that any of us wouldn't do if we owned the team. Just my opinion. He's a business man who loves the Jets, but also wants to make a profit. He committed to building a new stadium, which the majority of fans did want, and he divided the stadium up into PSL and Non-PSL seating. I personally don't think there is anything he could have done differently. It is impossible to please everyone, and someone somewhere would bitch even if Woody was letting us through the gates for free.
All part of the continued gearing of football towards women and children. The music they play at the stadium, the flight crew, Jenn Sterger...
Yep. Mine says March 9th, even though these seats were my grandfathers from the Jets first freaking season. Thanks alot for your damn seniority rules. They went from my grandpa to my uncle to my mom, and we lost our seniority because it changed names.
The real question is, for those buying the PSLs, are you really planning on selling your seats in 10 years and getting a return on investment? Otherwise you are just basically paying a surcharge for the rights to buy tickets for those seats. Really if you look at it that way, isn't that what the call a scam?
I guess what is happening is most people will keep their tickets, in the family at least. You will NEVER get that money back. and in thirty years, the cycle starts over again with another stadium. Again, it just baffles my mind what people are willing to pay. While I have been a long time fan, I would never pay that money. But some people have that expendable cash I guess.
That's what I don't get. If you have 10K+ to blow on seats, then you're bound to find something way better to do with that money (school for kids, travel, home renovation, etc).
Oh I agree, i could never justify it, but that is me. For some reason, I can just see the owners giggling... "Hey look, we can get them to pay for EVERYTHING!" "How about a 15 escalator charge?"
Nobody wants to pay but some of us do love the game, the experience, the team, etc. I might be in the minority, but have come to terms with the PSL. If I have to, I will pay and I will continue to go to the games. I someday hope my son will enjoy going as well. Will it cost me extra money? Yeah. Am I independently wealthy? No. Sure I'm not going to be sitting in an empty stadium. I'm still going to enjoy my football. I don't ask for much more!!!
I guess my question for those that are paying is this... how much is too much, because I am sure that is what the owners are thinking. I don't bemoan those that can do it, that is great for you. It is just a question.
I am independently wealthy and I will not pay for the PSLs. Independently wealthy people recognize a worthless ripoff when they see one and avoid it at all cost. After all, that's how they got where they are today. This is also why you are not and never will be independently wealthy with this kind of thinking. Good luck to you and your son, but don't expect him to become independently wealthy either, because he'll probably follow in his father's footsteps and in his thinking. Want him to become independently wealthy? There's never been a better time than now to put that same money into a Vanguard mutual fund (like the S&P 500, for example) and have the money grow and eventually pay for his entire college education. Then he'll go out into the world and make his own independent wealth, unlike his father, who thought PSLs were a terrific idea.
My god 227, thanks so much. When I grow up I want to be just like you. Come on, man. To each there own. If someone wants to purchase a PSL and like the idea of being able to keep seats in their family, who are you to say it's not worth it and say someone will not become "just like you" and be wealthy. To each their own. Who cares!!???!!
Doubt the alphabetical part. My last name starts with the last letter of the alphabet. The 'seniority' thing, that makes more sense, but it's a story in itself. Our tickets go back to the early '60's here, but I was going back and forth with the Jets FO via email a few months ago because anyone and everyone prior to '77 only goes back to '77 (according to them) because they no longer have the records. How typical is that. Jets football! ^Seniority, it's been discussed on here before. My computer blew up a couple of months ago and luckily I got most of my stuff retrieved in early Jan. I've yet to restore a bunch of stuff, but I'll have to look up what the last exchange was over it some time soon. I was still confused just how they were determining 'seniority' without records! In other words, let's say you really did start out in '77. I started out in '63. How are they figuring out who will be offered better seating if they have no way of knowing who was really from '77 or '63? The last thing I recall was some drivel also based on current seating, so I'm curious to see what the offer my cousin, seeing as he has the two seats next to us (under a different last name starting in the same year). Either way, I still haven't figured out how I'm going to afford whatever it is just yet. Probably a home equity loan. The hell I let the Jets make interest off of me. They should pay ME to sit there in the first place (shakes fist).
No such expendable cash here. I promised my Daddy I'd never give them up aside from the fact that I really don't want give them up. The fact that I'm getting skinned alive and ripped off, I have to try my best to ignore it and be inventive on how to let the Jets rob me with the least amount of pain. I know it sounds dumb because he's gone, but it's just the symbolism of it. We were very close, it was our father/daughter thing going to games together, so it's special to me. Yeah, I have a warm and creamy center, but don't be telling anyone or I'll have to push your face in. If I gotta sell my blood on a regular basis or sell a body part on the gray market, I guess that's what I'll have to do. When words are not necessary...
I wonder if there's a chance that the sales will go so poorly that the Jets will have to rethink the pricing. I know that sounds ridiculous, but on the other hand, we've seen some pretty crazy things happen economically the last several months. I think I heard that today alone 72,000 job cuts were announced (23,000 from Pfizer alone). A lot of the big hitters are cutting jobs (MS announced their first ever layoffs the other day, I think). I've toyed with the idea of just ponying up and paying for a PSL or two, but if I lose my job in the near future, the last thing I'd want to be thinking about is that I just dumped $5k+ per PSL that I could have kept saved. Didn't they only sell 1/3 of the seats they'd hoped to sell during that initial auction? Or am I misremembering? No sarcasm or drama intended with that question....I just thought I remembered that. I think that the first round offerings will extend way past the current ticket holders (eg - relatively few will actually go for tickets but will instead wait for round 2 and the chance for no-PSL seats). I'm wondering if they get a ridiculously low sale rate if they'll by some chance retool the plans. I guess I can only hope
I am planning on making a 2nd plea to get my seniority restored to its rightful place (since my grandfather had tickets since the Jets became the Jets). If I don't get the seniority we deserve, the Jets will be losing a long time season-ticket-holding family that has 12 seats. I will not pay for PSL, and if I don't get upper deck seats, the Jets will be fine to watch from my 52" HDTV. As it is, we're getting forced out of our lower deck seats on the 35 row 22. Now we might be getting forced right out of the stadium.
