Here is a mock draft from pro football weekly

    http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/NFLDraft/Draft+Extras/2008/mock2329.htm

    17. New York Jets
    QB Mark Sanchez* / USC

Brett Favre?s arm was dead at the end of the season, and the Jets could sorely use a live arm to throw in the strong Meadowlands winds. GM Mike Tannenbaum is starting fresh with a new head coach and could give the organization a new face, as well, with the spunky, young signalcaller.

It's impossible to know, at this point in time, where the Jets go at #17, they don't even have a clue. If I had to bet my last dollar...Ryan goes defense. How does Ryan feel about Clemens and Ratliff??? Are the Jet's going to sign a Vet QB???.....they better.....can't rely on KC, Rat and Ainge.

Drafting Sanchez would sent a CLEAR message that Ryan wants his guy and doesn't have confidence with our current QBs.

FWIW, Sanchez probably won't be available at #17, I believe his stock will rise and someone in the 8-13 range (maybe San Fran or Jax) will pull the trigger.

If Sanchez fell to 17 I would draft him in a second...I would even trade up the 12 or so if he slips out of the top ten.

He sits for a full year if this actually happens.

I agree with WW85, 100%. I'm just afraid that Vontae Davis will be off the board, and selecting someone like a Tyson Jackson, while a good pick, wouldn't be nearly as influential.

I don't remember who said it on this board, maybe Mr E........."Rex is going to load up on DBs", I really believe it. I like Davis.....but Sean Smith, "Macho" Harris, and Daruis Butler are becoming more to my liking lately. I'm not saying Vontae is a bust or doesn't deserve credit, but the 3DBs I mentioned.... may be a better fit.

I'm not sure I would feel comfortable taking any of those in the first round. I absolutely love Macho Harris, but he's an early second round pick at best. He's a heavy hitter and a tough player, but he's not all that fast. Butler will definitely be there at #59, and Smith probably projects better to safety.

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear.....I'm not suggesting that all 3 are 1st rd players. Smith may fall into rd 1. I'm saying we go a different direction in Rd 1 and try to get our DB in Rd 2.

I believe the LBs make the difference in his system. Unless you know for a 100% that this QB is the goods, I doubt he will make that pick. Yeah a coach always likes to pick his guy, but I'm not sure if this is his guy. I believe he can be safe going with Defense. And being that this draft is heavy with LBs DT and DEs, I would be surprised if Ryan didn't load up this year on the defense and worry about the offense next season.

Okay, that's definitely fair. I said it in my mock draft post, the positions we need to address are LB, S, CB, and WR, and maybe QB. I'm not sure an edge rusher like Everette Brown would be a great pick, though. What I think we need from our next LB is a mini Vilma: great lateral quickness and sideline to sideline speed. The only LB who comes close to matching that description in the first is Laurinaitis, but he can't do that very well. This draft is very interesting because aside from the first couple of picks, virtually every player could go anywhere from #5 to #30. I wouldn't be surprised if, for example, Aaron Maybin went at #5 to San Fran or if he dropped out of the first round. This is going to be a very interesting draft.
