Wait a minute. True WR's take approx 3 years to transition from NCAA to NFL. Smith was a QB transitioning to WR. I think he deserves a bit more time. Besides an excellent STer, Smith is dangerous in space when he has the ball. There were numerous times where he kept drives alive on his athleticism alone. If he continues to develop as a WR, he's great depth and a good character guy to have in the locker room. There's no point to cutting him, especially because his contract isn't expensive.
As a WR he's never going to crack the top 3. Killer on ST, good depth at WR (hands are still questionable) but his gadget plays are for shit- we're not fooling anyone with him under center. This team hasn't had a true #1 since Keyshawn walked out the door.
I know exactly what it means. But ($17m) does not mean negative $7m ($7m). That was the point I was making. See my post below: Code: Estimated NFL Salary Cap Limit: $123,000,000 Jets Adjusted Cap: $123,000,000 Current Estimated Cap Space: ($16,584,125) What part of ($16,584,125) suggests you we are $7 mil over the cap
Sure enough he can play. But doesn't have much left in the tank. Maybe two more solid yrs before he becomes avg. He's not going to be great again in his career IMO. I think Suggs would be a better option.
^ I talked to the guy who does that salary cap site about the big spike in Rhodes' signing bonus over email. It used to be $4 million for '09 but then Tim Graham wrote an article showing his salary much higher with no details and it spiked to $10 million. The guy who runs the site said that he did contact Graham and a few others but has been unable to find details or sure answers anywhere. He told me he expects to change that figure often, so while the current figure is (16.whatever), it's probably not accurate. For some reason the Rhodes contract details are some big secret.
^ Rhodes seems to be highly over priced at $10mil if true. Although I just hope Gholston can a million a bucks for each sack he gets...
Ya think? Frikin Ed Reed doesn't even make $8 million this year but Kerry Rhodes is making $10 million. Stupid ass contract if that turns out to be true.
Rotoworld doesn't have much either: http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_contract.aspx?sport=nfl&id=3316 So far, I have read that we are somewhere in between $7 to $17 mil over the cap of 09. I have read $7, $10 and $17, but I hope its $7 including Favres $13millions.
The curse will be broken by the hiring of a head coach connected to the last Super Bowl. Ryan is the missing link. I am as excited as a fat girl eating chocolate cake.
Yeah I was one of them, but you don't give the guy more money than the best safety in the game, arguably EVER. Sorry, that's retarded if it's true.
How sure are we that that's the correct disposition of money-by-year for Kerry Rhodes' contract? Because it looks suspicious that his cap number is so high this year when it would be so much lower next year. I mean, really, he counts $10.6 this year but just $3.7 next year? I thought Tannenbaum was a cap genius. Shouldn't he have put the big cap hit next year when there's no cap? (and then plan to restructure when the cap comes back)
No one is sure on the number because no one has the exact details of the contract. If that is the figure though, it's retarded.
