Having Sheets and Ollie in the same rotation makes no sense. It's never a good idea to have more than one risky starter in a rotation. Sheets is injury prone and Ollie is all over the place. If it happens at the same time, we're screwed. I'm all for signing Sheets. But if we do, we need to sign Garland as well. If we can offset Sheets' potential injuries with 200 solid innings from Garland, the risk is way down. Plus if Sheets gets hurt, Redding can come out of the long relief role and in to the rotation. We also have Niese and Parnell who can do so. Santana Sheets Pelfrey Garland Maine Santana/Sheets/Pelfrey in a playoff series or in an important series against PHI/ATL would be huge.
When you wrote 200 solid innings from Garland, uh, I think you meant "shitty." That kind of thinking is how you wind up giving Steve Trachsel a job.
http://www.metsblog.com/ The provisional rosters were announced yesterday for the World Baseball Classic, and 14 players from the Mets organization are scheduled to take part, including: David Wright, J.J. Putz and Brian Schneider (USA); Francisco Rodriguez and Johan Santana (Venezuela); Carlos Beltran, Carlos Delgado, Pedro Feliciano and Jesus Feliciano (Puerto Rico); Ruben Tejada and Angel Cuan (Panama); Jose Reyes (Dominican Republic); Shawn Bowman (Canada); and Stefan Welch (Australia). ========= and Mets sign Cory Sullivan.
I think they're gonna sign Sheets now, as they have the depth to back it up when/if he gets hurt with Redding, Garcia, and Niese.
I drove by on the Van Wyck the other night and was wondering where the stadium was. Now I know. The sign for the new stradium was bright though.
This team is doomed for disappointment. The strengthen of the 8th and 9th inning guys was only to mask the lack of rotation, catcher, second base, outfield, and first base.
never say never. jets got brett favre. if someone told you when jets training camp opened, we would have favre.thats just like manny to the mets. which i could only hope. i would even settle for adam dunn. we need another bat.
After they sign Ollie they're out of space if they want to keep payroll under last years total. And Wilpon will NOT pay the luxury tax.
Bingo..... although I would take 1st base off the list. Delgado should still put up decent numbers. We still have one OF nobody to play 2nd unless you count a platoon of Cora/Castillo/somebody else. Have we had a catcher since Piazza?
Lo Duca had one good year. I still think they should sign a midget at least for September with the expanded roster. The midget would walk everytime. He'd be great with the bases loaded. After he reached base on balls, he would be removed for a pinch runner.
