Watching the press conference I was thinking that Ryan reminds me of a young Parcells, and not just physically. Anyone care to opine??

Only comparison you can make is that they both started out as DCs. You are WAY out of line in comparing RR to BP at this point... He has a looooong way to go before they are mentioned in the same breath.

Ryan sounds awesome, yes. But let's at least let a season go by, before we attempt any comparisons. Actually, how 'bout we let three seasons go by. That's what we gave the Mangenius, and he went from great to horrible to mediocre.

I thought the same thing. He seems to have the "IT" factor. Mangini had the SHIT factor.

Rex Ryan reminds me more of Buddy Ryan than Bill Parcells.
    I know. Go figure.

The thread starter compared the new coach to an old coach because he see similarities in attitude or something.

    The other thread was ridiculous.

Yea comparisons to the great coaches of all time are a bit over the top at this juncture.

But I for one really liked the fact that he seemed to want to be here in particular, it seems like he feels a real connection to the franchise through his father. He stressed a couple times that he plans to be here for a while, and I for one hope that he's right, enough of the three year hiring/firing cycle, time for a coach to stick around for a bit.

My favorite coaches of all time are Buddy Ryan, Joe Gibbs, Mike Ditka, and Jeff Fisher. Three of the four coached for the '85 Bears. (Mike Singletary is next on my list, but we need to see more.)

Buddy Ryan had as much swagger as any head coach in league history. He didn't back down from anybody and his teams were always tough and this includes the 1994 Cardinals. The 1995 Cardinals not so much- that team was just bad.

My fear with Rex Ryan is that he might be like his father in that he might be much more suited to simply being a defensive coordinator as opposed to a head coach. Hopefully, he'll be a better head coach than his father and stick with the Jets for a decade.
