Hahaha...I was laughing my ass off in the library when I was reading Scott Wright's Senior Bowl stuff.
he wrote one guy had a fat ass really? wow I'm definitely not gonna draft him Wow, impressive abs!..... He's rising in my draft boards Revis Christ what is this guy thinking
Popeye....................take the senior bowl week "with a grain of salt". It's a good week for getting weigh-ins, watching practice habits etc. It's a week to confirm how you feel about about a player, not completely judge his ability. IMO, the true evualation of a player is watching his entire body of work thru-out his entire career at school.
I completely agree. You want to look at the whole career not just one week. But I do put extra weight on Senior Bowl and Combine performances. I think they show a few things that are pretty important: 1) how does the prospect compare against other NFL ready guys ? 2) how does he perform under pressure ? 3) how committed is he to getting ready to be a pro ? Senior Bowl and the Combine do help to uncover the college stars who just don't have it for the NFL. Andre Woodson last year is a good example. On the basis of his college resume, the guy is a high draft pick. But when you start to really look at his performance in the drills, it was clear that he didn't have the accuracy to be an NFL QB. And his drop in the draft (and subsequent life on a practice squad) proved that.
After seeing the Senior Bowl practices yesterday on NFL network, here's the guys that I thought looked pretty good: Phil Loadholdt - the man is huge and just engulfs the defenders Macho Harris CB , VT - fantastic coverage skills LB Brian Cushing USC - smart, tough, plays with attitude (great hit in practice), seems like he'd be a great teammate and a natural leader Moala DT USC - impressive mid to late round NT prospect TE Brandon Pettigrew OK State - man among boys David Veikune Hawaii DE - kid showed great quickness / maybe an OLB prospect for us ?
NFL Network's Mike Mayock believes that Missouri SS William Moore has been the most disappointing player at the Senior Bowl. A decorated college safety, Moore appears to be sliding like Darnell Bing three years ago. "He’s not coming out of his breaks," Mayock observed. "He doesn’t run well. There is a buzz (in Mobile) that he might be a linebacker." Source: Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Boston College DT B.J. Raji has reportedly been the star of this year's Senior Bowl. Raji, who has dominated in one-on-one drills, caught the attention of coach Marvin Lewis in particular. Raji appears to be emerging as a top-ten pick. Source: New Orleans Times-Picayune
Louis Delmas of Western Michigan has reportedly been the most impressive safety at the Senior Bowl. Delmas has allegedly outplayed Mizzou SS William Moore, who is considered a first-round prospect in some circles. Delmas is more of a center-field free safety type. He's showed great closing speed and instincts in practice. Source: National Football Post
I think this guy is grading Maualuga way too harsh. *********************** A veteran scout said at the Senior Bowl that he believes USC MLB Rey Maualuga may only be a two-down linebacker in the pros. Two-down linebackers don't go top five. "He's a kamikaze," said the scout. "He seems to run well once he gets going. But he may be just a 'triangle' player." Maualuga's time in the forty-yard dash will be key at the Combine. Source: St. Louis Post-Dispatch
I've been listening to Pat Kirwan and Tim Ryan scout the Senior Bowl for NFL Radio on Sirius. The have had on every coach there and they are openly talking about some of the prospects. The Iowa DE has risen as has Ayers. They beat up Ziggy Hood a little.
Michael Crabtree is the most overrated player in the draft. This receiver class is so weak, and so small. In a draft with Dez Bryant and Arrelious Benn, Crabtree may be the third receiver taken. His main strengths are his size and his production. Don't get me wrong, I know he's a very talented player, but he's vastly overrated because of this draft's lack of offensive talent. 1.) He'll most likely run in the high 4.4s or the low 4.5s. 2.) He has very inconsistent hands...the kid's had a lot of drops at Texas Tech. 3.) His route running skills are mediocre at best RIGHT NOW, but that can be coached up. 4.) Texas Tech runs an offense that inflates stats. We've never seen a highly rated recruit (Crabtree was a 4 star) in their offense...people should realize that in 2005, three TTU wideouts put up great numbers - Joel Filani had 1007 yds and 8 TDs, Rob Johnson had 951 yds and 4 TDs, and Jarrett Hicks had 850 yds and 10 TDs. That's almost 3000 yards and 22 TDs between three guys...ridiculous. These three were mediocre recruits -- 2 stars or below. Crab's an big, strong, athletic wideout, but that system inflated his stats big time. On an SEC team I think Crab would catch about 45-50 balls for 800ish yards and maybe 10 TDs.
I've said all year that Crabtree is not the best receiver in college. 1) Arrelious Benn, Illinois 2) Dez Bryant, Oklahoma State 3) Michael Crabtree, Texas Tech If he returned next year, I even think Damian Williams from USC could be rated above him. Williams will likely not have as good of a season as I expected though since Sanchez left early.
Wait a second, weren't you the one that tried to bash me when I said Damian Williams was a top wide receiver prospect, or was that our old friend DWare?
I doubt it was me since I've been saying for a few months that he can a top WR in the NFL, but I do recall early in the college season you made a list of "top WRs" and I said only Benn and Bryant from the list would be #1's in the NFL. I don't remember if Williams was on it or not.
My list was in this thread, and it was you...not DWare: http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=39488&highlight=Damian+Williams It's alright to change your opinion on a guy...I'm not trying to dig up dirt on you.
