I like Ryan's enthusiasm and his pedigree, but I will reserve my judgment on this hire until we see some results. I don't buy post-hire press conferences anymore, they are just a product of the hype machine.

I am looking forward to see what he can do for the D. Getting rid of that damn three man rush. I am glad they got him but again will temper my enthusiasm till I see what the results are.

I am happy to be a Jets fan again. That is good news. Hopefully we can watch a great defense for some years to come.

I don't know if anyone posted this yet, but I think we're starting to get an inkling of what the staff will look like:

"We've just got Mike [Pettine] to be our defensive coordinator," Ryan said. "He's a rising star in the game. He's destined to be a head coach himself. His dad was a legendary coach in Pennsylvania. It was obvious to me early that he had what it took, he was going to be special. He's a guy I really leaned on. He became really my right-hand man in Baltimore. We're very fortunate to have him as our coordinator. He could've gone many places or stayed, I'm sure."

One of Ryan's catchphrases will be talking about guys he's leaned on. He made the same point when talking about two more coaches from the Jets' staff that he said are being retained — assistant head coach/offensive line coach Bill Callahan and special teams coach Mike Westhoff.

On Callahan: "Everyone knows the kind of coach Bill is. He led a team to a Super Bowl. As a head coach, he's got all that experience. I'm very aware of the kind of job he does, so we're fortunate to be able to keep him."

And Westhoff's name came up when Ryan and John Harbaugh, Baltimore's first-year head coach, were talking recently about teams play.

Harbaugh: "If you get the Jets job, Mike Westhoff's there.'

    Ryan: "He is?"

"Obviously the respect John had, of being a special teams coach for 10 years — this is The Guy in the league," Ryan said. "I'm going to lean on him, on Bill Callahan, and on several coaches. It's definitely not a me thing, it's a we thing."

Question. Why is there something growing in my pants after listening to this guy?

    Best quote of the day.

"The Jets are coming with all we got and we think it's more than you can handle" he sounds so much like his father did...

Man, I remember the meek press conference Mangini gave and left me wondering if we made the right choice. He inspired NOTHING in his presser. My hope was that some of Belichik had rubbed off on him. Ryan delivered an opening speech that has me completely looking forward to better days, finally...

After reading some of the posts on this thread, it seems realistic with some people.

It was a great press conference. It was exactly what we wanted, and NEEDED, to hear. It will be a change of football that everyone, including myself, have been bitching about for months.

Of course we are excited. Hopefully he doesn't follow Jets tradition of letting us down and us being dissappointed.

But the man has a way with words. He has the right attitude. I love it. I really want to spear the next co-worker that walks past my cubicle.

I was sad to see Mangini go, but I understand why it had to happen. Anyway, of all the coaches that were available, I wanted Rex Ryan on the Jets. This attack mentality that he speaks about is part of his family's philosophy. Heck, his dad invented it! Sort of. Anyway, I'm thrilled with the new head coach. I couldn't be happier!

Beautiful to see so much confidence. My favorite detail is that it's either walk through speed or full speed. In my opinion practicing full speed is the most helpful thing to do in all of football.

Also loved same as OP: It's ON. I so fully believed him.

He also said you will see his father in the building which I found an amazing comment.

It is his dad, I am sure he will visit him from time to time.
