Your point makes sense, but it makes Brett Ratliff supporters seem even more crazy than Clemens supporters.

I agree! Plus Ratliff has the build and mechanics of the prototipical pocket NFL QB.

Kellen throws the ball awkward and even sidearm at times. He is anything but a pocket QB without the speed or guts to run.

He is shorter an not in a quit way.

    Kellen 6'2" 223lbs
    Brett R 6'4" 235lbs

But we shouldn't forget that even Eric Ainge should have a shot too and he is even taller and a pure pocket QB.

you know it could just be intimidation, I mean Chad was an iconic figure on the team for a while any way I would hardly say that ratliff has a somewhat iconic status on the team. Maybe Clemens was disturbed by Chad's rep...idk I doubt it but Im just throwing it out there

They gave him the keys to a Yugo last season. He should have a shot at a real car!!!

I saw lesser QBs tear up our defense this year.

Kellen never showed a drop of tallent.

At best he should be given an equal shot, which I am sure if judged equally he would lose to both Brett R and Eric A.

See now you're just making stuff up. Chad and Clemens played equally shitty and neither had the other beat. Clemens' performance did pick up as training camp progressed though, Chad's didn't.

Clemens didn't play half as bad as his stats indicated. Against the Redskins (I think), out of 12 passes attempt, he had something like 5 completions, 4 dropped by receivers that were on the money, 2 batted down, and one tipped. That's not that bad. More familiarity in the pocket and with the o-line and he might well have avoided those deflections. He also he had a back-up center constantly backing up and stepping on his feet and sending him terrible snaps.

I was there with Steeler fans. Great game; solid, solid performance by KC.

Can you say he is too short, releases the ball low and sometimes throws sidearmed.

Not accurate and not a pocket QB. No mechanics!

Let him get familiar with the pocket and the o-line he's playing with and that won't be an issue.

You know what's a bigger problem? Staring down receivers. Can you guess which QB with "perfect height, build, and mechanics" did that all preseason? Not saying he can't break that habit, but yeah, that shit won't fly in a real game.

Like I said, all his passes that game were on the money. I don't think his mechanics are that bad either.

But why not the same with Ratliff?

Why not dropped passes for Ratliff? Does he throw an easier ball?

If passes are batted down or tipped, its on Clemens.

He knew that OL better than Clemens did, he's been around longer. That doesn't help Kellen's cause.

Too many excuses for his poor play. That's why I don't buy Clemens as a capable starter... he shits his pants, and has awful footwork. Can it be improved? I hope so, then it gives us a starter. If not, next please.

[QOUTE] Could Rex Like Kellen Clemens? [/QOUTE]

You're kidding right? Yes he could like him, or maybe he might hate him. Just because he played the Ravens, doesnt mean he likes him! Hell since i saw rob johnson play a game in buffalo against the Jets, does that mean i think he is the next QB i want in Green? hell no.

While I get the sentiment, clemens deserves a shot (which i agree with) stating that Ryan may be in love with Kellen as the starter cuz he had a good game against the ravens last year is retarded. Hell it was his first game, so from a defensive perspective, there was no film of him to study to see what he would do.

I've read that Clemens made a lot of progress the last 6 weeks of '08 and really impressed the CS. Sometimes a light bulb just turns on with young QB's in the NFL and they finally "get it". Maybe that's what happened with Clemens at the end of the season. He at least deserves a shot.

Rex Ryan doesn't know dick about any of our QBs. Assuming Favre retires it HAS to be an open competition so he and his coaching staff can evaluate what they're working with. Kellen should have no advantage by being the "No. 2" QB, nor should Ratliff or Ainge be at a disadvantage because they're 3 and 4. Let them (and possibly a FA vet) battle it out during training camp and preseason. May the best man win.

There is one factoid that makes me sort of dismiss Ratliff's awesome pre-season performance. The factoid is that Detroit also went 4-0 this pre-season.

I like Clemens, I think he still has what it takes to be a success, I feel he was handcuffed by Mangini and never fully given a chance to show what he has.

But I also believe there should be an open competition. You cannot force a player to be some thing he's not, you have to coach to their abilities.

Edwards nor Mangini knew how to do that, that's why neither are here.

Let's see what Rex does with him and if he allows Schotty 2.0 to do his thing with the offense and the QB's

there are better QBs than Kellen in the draft that we could get and I'm not talking the 1st round.

I say let Eric and Brett fight it out. Kellen is a lame duck QB in more ways than one.

I would be interested in bringing Chris Simms in for veteran minimum plus some incentives to fight for the job.
