Ok, before you start having conniption fits, hear me out. I'm not "assuming" or "implying" anybody is getting signed, just food for thought. Please let me know what you think.

I think we can all agree that Woody Johnson has built a team to win now. Now, let's assume Favre retires. Why come back, especially after the nightmare this has been?

So, where do we go from here? I share the same feelings on the QB situation as some of you do, Brett Ratcliff. I also know the same things you know, he's looked great, but it was against 3rd string defenses. So, we have to concede the fact that he's not going to lead us to the promise land next year. I know that and you know that and I'm sure WJ knows that.

So here's the thing, if Favre retires, what's going to stop WJ from bringing in another veteran QB to START? Not to compete for a starting spot...but to start. Why try a young gun, rather then pick up somebody proven, for a team built to win now? (His thoughts, not mine)

Now, I know some of you hate these threads...but I'm going to ask it any way. If you don't like it, then just don't reply.

Rather then search Free Agency for a Warner or a Garcia, why not, if interested, propose a trade for McNabb? He's dealt with the pressures of a "win-now" city for 10 years. He's taken the Eagles to 5 NFC title games. He's got all the tools, and unlike somebody, he's not rapidly declining. I think, in my opinion, McNabb is borderline hall of fame material WITH a good WR to throw to. I ONLY say that based on how he produced when TO was in Phili. I think our WRs are a lot better then the Eagles and he just posted 375yrds and 3 tds with them. I know it's ANOTHER hypothetical, but let me know what you think.

I understand some of your frustrations with people talking about signing this guy or that guy, but WE ALL can agree that QB is our biggest question mark at this point, and it's worth exploring in the forum. Thanks.

I'm not really high on McNabb for a few reasons:

    1) he's getting up there in age (11 years in the league i believe)
    2) he's pretty banged up
    3) his price tag

it was a good post...I just think we need to draft a franchise QB and develop him, IMO.

I agree. I'm simply stating that "from Woody's view" we're not rebuilding. We're here to win now. I would love to find our franchise qb, but is he willing to look or would he rather go down the same old path?

And your avatar has given me a chub. God bless her.

After 2 or 3 years in the NFL, Clemens and Ratliff should be able to play by now. I'd much rather give them the chance to fight for the starting job. I think that would be best for team chemistry rather than bringing in another worn out vet.

Everything is in place for this team to do well....except the QB position (well, for the future anyways..depending if Favre retires...then the present can be included as well). So Woody shouldn't shy away from drafting a QB....a rookie QB could thrive with the oline we have, the run game, Keller and our wideouts.

I thought of photoshopping a pic of myself behind the broad in my avatar....i might have to run it by GreenMachine or one of the other photoshop gurus on the board

Old? He's only 32 man! That is not old. He probably has another good 4 to 5 years in him. And he won't have to change the color of his uniform either. I don't know about you, but I'm in it to win it. Thumbs up for Mcnabb.:up:

dude...not all QB's have the longevity of a Favre, Warner or Marino. 32 usually means they're on the wrong side of their career.

McNabb is on the decline, he hasn't won squat, and I would say he's close to being made of glass with his injury history.

It's not the years, it's the mileage:

    2005 - 9 games played
    2006 - 10 games played
    2007 - 14 games played

So McNabb has missed almost an entire season over 3 years with various injuries.

I would still rather have him over Clemens though. And if Ratliff could perform the way he did during last pre-season, I'll take my chances if we have Ratty as his back up.

McNabb is good, but not great. He has all day to throw behind the Eagles line, and can be very spotty in his accuracy. Plus, I doubt Philadelphia would be eager to get rid of him.

The one "proven" veteran who could probably be acquired is Jake Delhomme. I'm sure Carolina fans would gladly give him a ride to the airport.

well certainly...i'd like to have him too.....but i don't think we're in any position to give up draft picks in a trade at this point in McNabb's career. And his contract demands would be astronomical....i'd rather spend whatever cap money we have left shoring up other positions.

Well you're not getting his point Jake. He's saying, McNabb isn't as banged up as he should be cuase he has played 10 yrs out of the 11 in the league. Favre has played 64 yrs in the league. or something like that.

So McNabb still has some leg left in his opinion...

IMO, McNabb is getting old. The only old QB I would target would be Warner. I don't know why we didn't go after him few yrs ago. He would have been the MVP this yr if it was to be decided after the SB. He's simply unbelievable at his age. Although great receivers help, you still have to throw at them. And he has the same 'mileage' as McNabb.

If not Warner, then I say we draft a future franchise QB this yr by trying to move up. I don't want another Gholston or Bryan Thomas. I want a first rounder QB that is young (21yrs, no older) and can play football.

There is a good chance McNabb could get released anyway. I don't think anybody will trade for him until that plays out and that probably won't be until sometime next summer.

Then you could be like 2190 or 5180 or whatever his name was and claim she's your wife! Next thing you know, you'll be talking like a pirate! :)

You make Pennnington sound dumb here. Penny with an arm and a tan would be All-Pro.

I dont really want to waste part of a season letting another short term vet adjust to our system and players, just take the hit and lets get a young guy in here for the long term
