Let him go to Detroit. Then he can figure out how NOT to get the ball to Calvin Johnson.

I thought the word was he wants out of here if he doesn't get the HC job. If that is the case please get rid of him. I'm sure anyone we hire off the street will realize we need to give the ball to Leon more than twice a game.

I still want to see what Schotty can do with Mangini out of the picture. We've heard a lot of reports that Mangini tried to do to much and wouldnt let his coaches coach.

Yeah, you have to let him interview. They haven't offered him a job. They haven't decided on a coach and if he decides to leave with all of that up in the air then they shouldn't want him anyway.

Pfft. For me you can file that alongside "We can't defend in preseason because we use vanilla schemes". No, it's because you're shit.

Well, now that this thread has gone on for awhile and there are no links that I see, the question begging to be asked is did we give it? Permission, that is.

I think we should decline the request for permission to interview Schotty.

Regardless of what the majority of you have said, our offense’s numbers were excellent this year (especially when you factor in that Favre was injured, self destructed, or turned back into himself down the stretch).

Why are other teams (and it is “teams”: Detroit is just the first) interested? Well…, in Schotty’s first year he performed so well he was considered for a head coaching position. His second was an anomaly as the offense turned into an injury minefield. And during his third year the Jets scored more points than any other in Jets’ history. Hmmm,…I wonder why teams are interested?

I say keep Schotty, if he is willing to stay. Football teams need continuity, and we better not keep Sutton! And who are the idiots asking to make Callahan the OC? Have you seen him call an offense? I’ll grant you that the o-line likes him, but that doesn’t make him an OC. I think we need someone on O to keep things running while Rex and a new DC figure out the weakness of this team, THE DEFENSE.

Sorry guys, long day at work…I guess.

How would you know if it is "teams"? Schottys agent is also the new Lions head coaches agent. Coincidence? No.

What makes you think our offense's numbers were great this year? We were ranked middle of the pack (16th). Our 9th ranked offense was impressive but Scitt abandoned it whenever we fell behind or when it mattered most. Any smart OC would have played to their strengths, but we played to our weakness (pass). Hmmm... I also wonder why teams are interested.

And yes, I have seen Callahan call on offense. See Oakland offense 1999-2003. Deadly offenses. Rich Gannon's MVP was because of Callahan. Callahan is a garbage HC, but has a proven track record as OC. So he's the guy, we keep familiarity within the offense.

    I disagree:

    1) Schotty has been reported as a candidate for the Rams OC position as well as teh Detroit position. Detroit is just the first team to ask.

    2) Callahan was the OC for Jon (I never sleep because I am up watching film of the other team's defense with Rich Gannon) Gruden and Rich Gannon. I will admit that the Raiders had one good season with Callahan as OC/HC, but all the pieces were in place when Gruden left.

This was Callahan's first year on the team.. He isn't famaliar with SCHOTT's Offense.. He would install his own.. Or what the New Head Coach wants.. Where do these Dumb Asses come from...

Callahan runs one of many variations of the West Coast offense; as does Schott. Can you see why there would be familiarity if BC was coordinator?

The West Coast offense would be perfect with Rex Ryan's defensive mind. Our offense will almost certainly be extremely conservative under Ryan. As long as our offense protects the ball, we should be fine.

    Defense wins championships...

Wait didn't we have a cautious plodding offense with Chad? I think we need to be a conservative smash-mouth team because of our personnel but I'd like my offense to do more than just "protect the ball." The only times that type of offense can win a title is if they have an all-time great defense. I like Ryan but I'm not expecting miracles or for our defense to be truly great enough to carry a mediocre O to the Lombardi Trophy.

i would love to see what he can do now that mangini isnt breathing down his neck. however callahan as OC sounds nice. i dont like having favre but if callahan could go to the super bowl with gannon i wonder what he could do with our entirely too old quarterback

You can be smart with the football and have a powerful and effective running game. I'm not saying we should throw short the entire game, but not turning the ball over will be very important.

Whoever the OC is next year needs to run the football...effectively and constantly. That way things will open up through play action.
